FFL's and parents buying for kids

Not a straw purchase. It's not a straw purchase. It is legal. From the ATF website FAQ: (B14) May a parent or guardian purchase firearms or ammunition as a gift for a juvenile (less than 18 years of age)? [Back] Yes. However, possession of handguns by juveniles (less than 18 years of...

Too bad CZ doesn't make a revolver

No. Dan Wesson stopped ALL revolver production 2 years ago. All tooling & production equipment was removed to make room for expanded 1911 production. All personel involved in revolver production are gone. Keith Lawton, Production Manager of Dan Wesson told me personaly at the NRA show...

    .310 in a .308?

It is not uncommon to use .310 bullets in a 30 caliber rifle that has seen some heavy usage and measures high on a barrel erosion gauge. Usually done for mil-surp rifles as an alternative to a rebarrel. Guns that are termed "shot out" can actually give some good accuracy. There was a recient...

Would you ever draw your knife instead of your pistol?

THAT was funny! Thanks for the laugh! In answer to the question, No. I think you must have confidence in your ability & in your weapon to carry it. I don't have enough confidence in my knife fighting skills to even consider it.

Example of how NOT to protect your neighborhood

What exactly did the "Neighborhood Watchmen" intend to do if they had encountered the actual burglars? Question? Arrest? Detain? If they thought the girls were suspicious, they should have called LEO. Observe & report. Mr Campos should have done the same. Contact LEO about a suspicious...

Return of My Prodigal (Dan Wesson .357)

Hello, What you have is a Model 15-2 No, the sight for the model 44 won't work. You need one for the small frame guns. The Millet sight jameslovesjammie listed is an excellent replacement. The Dan Wessons are excellent guns. Glad you got it back.

    Kentucky vehicle open carry

I believe this restriction DOES still apply, even if you have a CCW license. I read an Attorney General opinion on this that stated so, I will try to find and post a link here.

    Kentucky vehicle open carry

Actually was in 2006 Time flies! State Statute: 527.020 Carrying concealed deadly weapon. (8) A firearm or other deadly weapon shall not be deemed concealed on or about the person if it is located in a glove compartment, regularly installed in a motor vehicle by its manufacturer...

    Kentucky vehicle open carry

Please note!!! In Kentucky, glove box is OK, but center console is not!! EVEN if you have a CCW license! There was a receint challange to this that failed. Center console is NOT a glovebox. Also under the seat is a no-no.

    jammed remington 700

Always use a cleaning rod, or a wooden dowel down the barrel to tap the case back out. DO NOT try tapping/hitting on the bolt handle to remove a stuck case. You will probably rip your extractor loose from the bolt assembly. I have seen it happen twice. I warned the second guy & he didn't...

Dan Wesson Revos ever coming back?

Probably not. At least not for a long, long time. All the production equipment for revolvers has been taken out & sold. Almost all the revolver production people are gone. Keith Lawton, Production Manager for DW is the only one doing revolver repairs currently. He told me at the NRA...

    Unfortunate encounter at the range.

I would file a report now, with local law enforcement and with the person in control of the range. (As I understand, there is not a Range Officer on duty at this location.) A report filed now would be in your favor if you encounter this individual at a later date. You handled the situation...

Can revolvers be supressed with a sound suppressor?

You can also supress a Dan Wesson. Because of the removeable barrel you can cock the weapon, then screw the barrel back closing the cyl to forcing cone gap up to .0000.... Some folks over at the CIA had a few Dan Wesson revolvers that were soposedly supressed in this manner. I sure wouldn't...

    Fortifying your house

While I am always interested in ways to deter theft & better secure my home, the only thing I will add to this thread is this. Make sure you can get out. Fast. Double keyed deadbolts and various cross bars offer good security, but please make sure you, your kids, your wife, can get out of...

CZ Bobwhite in 28 ga. Sort of range report

Brewster, Welcome to the forum. You do realize you responded to a thread that is 3 1/2 years old? That being said, I have been looking at these CZs in the Ringneck in 28 & 16 gauge. They are very tempting.

can someone explain to me what an idiot mark is?

I'm curious as to when the term "idiot mark" was first used. It used to be you saw the "takedown/reassembly" mark on almost every 1911. Like a previous poster said it was just a wear mark, like scratches in a pickup bed. Not sure when we all became so condescending about the mark. I never...

Winchester Model 12 or Remington 870

An Ithaca 37 with styling cues from a Model 12. Yup, the Model 17. Ithaca waited for the patents to run out on the 17 & started production as the model 37. You are right. Those are sweet guns.

Winchester Model 12 or Remington 870

I would compare the Browning's balance and weight to the gun it was supposed to be, and the Browning sure does not compare favorably, other than the recoil absorption inherent in heavy guns. Ok, I'll bite. What was it supposed to be? My opinion always was an updated Model 17...

Winchester Model 12 or Remington 870

...and that they weighed less than a car. True, they are @ a 1/2 pound heavier than an 870. But then the Model 12 was no lightweight either. Balance is more important than weight. Besides more weight usually means less felt recoil.

Winchester Model 12 or Remington 870

Winchester Hands down. Better quality. Better durability. The 870 is a fine economy gun, but it is no Model 12. Actually the Browning BPS is a better gun than the 870. Bottom ejection, ambi safety, solid reciever. Just wish the blueing was better on them.
