I would have liked the NOB or the one pictured above, but I was able to check out the Choate version at the NRA convention and for $9, the price was right.

There are 3 inserts included with the gun that will raise the the stock. I used the highest one and then I added a segment of pipe insulation under the stock ammo sleeve (look at the OP's picture) to get a proper cheek weld. It works very well for me.

Brownell's is your friend, if it is the stock you are asking about.

Hi all,
I find the Thumb safety in my Kimber Compact can be disengaged a little too easy for my taste and I would like to know if it can be adjusted so it takes a bit more force and "snap" for my thumb to disengage it.
Thanks,

Loosegrouper,
How does the barrel crown look? The previous owner could have been careless in barrel cleaning and allowed the cleaning rod to damage the crown.

Mattz357,
Unless the gritty points are polished out, changing to lighter springs will tend to make it more apparent. I really think you should buy and watch the Jerry Miculek DVD on Trigger jobs. It really shows you where the right places to polish are. After I studied the DVD I was able to...
I currently clean my revolvers with generic "pledge" wax spray ($1 a can). It really gets rid of the carbon residue on the gun surface, inside the barrel and the cylinder holes. A quick spray and bronze brushing of the cylinder front gets rid of the black carbon rings. So far I have been using...
I find the 2.5" 686 to be primarily a range gun for me. It weighs as much as a 4" model 66 and doesn't balance or point as well. I don't have a 4" 686 for comparison (I have a 6" 686). As for CCW, I carry a Glock 26.

I saw a SW 629-4 Classic 5 inch with EDM (Magnaport?) ports. It carries wood combat grips. The shop will let me have it for $600 out the door. I think the price seems high, unless there is some collector status in this setup. I need some help.

I use strips of brass/copper scrubbing pads wrapped around worn brushes and use it dry. It works well for the barrel also. After all the lead and carbon is loose, I follow that with the solvent soaked patches. I learned the trick from Bill Wilson's 1911 manual.
