I saw a SW 629-4 Classic 5 inch with EDM (Magnaport?) ports. It carries wood combat grips. The shop will let me have it for $600 out the door. I think the price seems high, unless there is some collector status in this setup. I need some help.

Seems high to me (a lot depends on your area). A new 629 wouldn't be that much more, maybe the high 600 range. I paid $450 (plus tax) for a 629-4 Mountain Gun in the spring of this year.

Maybe they feel the ports justify the price?

It depends in large measure on your location: model 629s are relatively expensive in urban areas and very expensive in states with lots of lunatic so-called "gun control" laws.

Magnaporting typically costs around $100, plus shipping both ways. A five-inch barrel will probably command a premium anywhere, since Smith & Wesson inexplicably can't seem to realize there's a hefty market for that length.

I paid $400 for this Mag-na-ported beauty this summer.

    I paid $509.95 for my NIB 5" S&W 629-5 .44 magnum classic,
back in July of 2000. So, $600 isn't unreasonable.
