Hi all! So I'm running some range pickup lake city 5.56 brass through the sizer and I come across some weird looking ones. The sizing die restored the shoulder to the correct dimensions and it passes the headspace gauge. Can anyone help me identify what caused this? Pic is the oddity (left) next...
Hi all,
So I'm diving in to reloading rifle cartridges for the first time. I just bought a radian model 1, 18in ar15. I've just ordered some rem 7 1/2 primers and sourced 5lbs of rl15. I plan on using once fired lake city brass. I would like to use rmr 75gr bthp bullets because of the...
I've seen a number of posts here about the Mini-14. I don't have one, and I'm curious about the preference over an AR. Is it looks (I can see the appeal of a more traditional style .223 semi over the black rifle), function, nostalgic factor, or something else?
Almost everyone seems to have an...
New reloader: I've encountered my first real problem. AR 15- NATO 1:7 twist. Shooting .223 55gr. Hornady FMJ
I purchased 2 lbs of LT-30 because it was what I could get at the time. This powder was one of the suggested powders in my reloading book (Lee second edition) for 55 grain jacketed...
Ive never reloaded before and have zero knowledge on the topic. I want to reload all of my .223 ans 5.56 brass and wanna know a little bit about some important things I need to know about doing so. I wanna do 55gr. Just wanna do bulk style ammo that will run through all my AR qith varying barrel...
Hello guys & gals,
So I bought these 62grs here: https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/001532276c250/22-caliber-point224-diameter-62-grain-bthp-with-cannelure-250-count
But the closest weights I have to these 62grs in my Hornady reloading book are 60gr or 68gr.
Should I just do some...
Hello guys & gals.
So I'm just getting into reloading. I've got 2 manuals so far - Nosler & Hornady.
In my Nosler book, it shows 'most accurate load' within the, like, 12 different powders they've tested. I love that they do this because it gives me a general place to start in regards to which...
Hello guys & gals,
From what I understand, the thickness of the cases is what makes the pressure difference between .223 & 5.56.
So my question is, excuse my ignorance, say I bought some .223, shot those rounds, then loaded to "5.56 specs"... Would that be a bad idea? Would that be too much...
Obviously, the two most popular cartridges for the AR-15 (we'll leave the AR-10 out of this particular discussion) are 5.57/.223 and less so 300 Blackout.
But, as we all know, there are many, many other calibers one can build/buy an AR chambered in.
Out of: 5.56/.223, 300 Blackout, 7.62x39...
Hello guys & gals.
So... disclaimer - I know juuuuuuust about nothing about reloading so far =D; so don't be too critical lol.
But I see a big drawback to short-barreled .223/5.56 AR pistols being the noise & fireball that comes out of the barrel.
Could you remedy this by reloading .223 with...
When I picked up my new CZ527FS in .223, I decided I wanted to try downloading some rounds for shooting steel plates at 50 yards. While we await snow-out to set-up the steel range in the woods, I figured it was a good time to start experimenting with loads.
Short story: it didn't take much...
If anyone has ever had trouble reloading .223 Rem/5.56 for an AR15 where the resized brass will not pass a case gauge and you are getting some reloaded rounds jammed in your AR like I was. I finally found a solution. I have been reloading for over 40 years before starting to reload for an AR15...
I've been considering getting another bolt action rifle for awhile now, I miss shooting my Turkish Mauser but 8mm Mauser ammo is too expensive to just plink with nowdays. I'm after a .223/5.56 rifle for low cost plinking with the option of hunting small-medium game if I ever get into that. I...
I've been buying "premium" or at least premium priced bullets from Hornady, Sierra, and Nosler exclusively but it has dawned on me recently that I might be throwing cash away and if the goal is to shoot so I can improve my skills, I might be able to shoot more if I lower the cost of the rounds...
So I purchased a Remington 700 in a .223, I plan to change it out for a 6mm br once I get the money, but I wanted to get into reloading. I have reloaded handgun loads but never rifle. I was given a RCBS FL sizing kit. However I'm not sure if I should use that or NK sizing? If FL sizing, how...
Hi and thanks for the help in advance,
I'm fairly new to reloading but have a done a few hundred rounds of several different calibers, so starting to get my head around it.
Today I bought some 70gn Hornady GMX (guided metal) projectiles for my .223 to use on pigs. I have been using 62gn...
I have owned the Mini-14 in the past and enjoyed it. So I'm looking at getting a new Mini in stainless, and am undecided about 7.62x39mm or .223 version. Either does the job for me as to a fun to shoot light carbine, both types of ammo are readily available and priced about the same.
So I'm...
I just uploaded to Youtube a short video of the Lee Load Master loading .223 Remington with H-335, Hornady 55gr FMJBT bullets, and S&B small rifle primers. Part of a 300 round group. The video is just under 4 minutes long.
Lee Load Master and .223 Rem Reloading
In looking at .223Rem and Hornady 55gr FMJBT #2267 bullet, Hodgdon's website data shows Varget achieving 3,384ft/s with a charge of 27.5grs. Their "standard" load shows 3,174ft/sec with 25.5grs of Varget. I understand that the best grouping will most likely fall somewhere between these two...
Hey folks, this is my first post. Happy to be here. Been thinking about making a profile here for awhile. Glad I finally did.
I'm new to reloading. Just picked up a used single-stage setup and I'm gathering info for loading. I've been searching around trying to cross reference, 2 hours later...
