I've always wanted a .380 because of it's "sexyness :what: " to me. I'm not into guns like some others and paying $600 for a Sig just because I like appearance isnt something I want to do. I wish sig was one of the lesser companies so the price would be good. Even the Bersa's have a good price range but the appearance of their .380s isnt what i want.

Note the slant from the barrel to the trigger. This is what makes me like em and is what I'm looking for most of all. See in the 2nd picture how the slant looks half assed. :fire:

So if anyone knows of look alikes for this gun, which is pictured below, please let me know. Any info will be appreciated. ;)

Bersa did manufacture the simple blowbacks more streamlined early on.

Due to popular demand, they eventually went with squared off front trigger guards, like a lot of other gun manufacturers, for the weak hand index finger as some shooters liked that functional feature. For folks who don't like to put their weak hand finger in front of the trigger guard, they just don't use it. For the minority of folks who buy guns strictly for the physical appeal, it shouldn't be a big deal to file down the trigger guard hook.

Sigs

Sigs are in the upper price region, but the quality is for sure there. I don't own a P232 but have a P230 that I have owned for over 10 years, and I love it. Let go of some of your old musty money and get the Sig. :)

To get technical, the SIG P232 is a Mauser HSc look-alike.

The Mauser HSc is a pretty gun. Its trigger guard is more slanted than anything. Here's mine...

Its wrong to tease me with that pic Highvelocity.

Linemup - It's easy to say let go of my musty money but man I just bough a sportsbike. We tore up through the mountain's twisties and now I'm in need of a new rear tire, Brakes. I dont know what i want to spend my $$$ on next :banghead:

Somone posted a site gunamerica.com and i found a good sig clone called Constable (1st pic) something. Does anyone know about the quality of this brand of .380s?

I saw a home picture of a Bersa thunder in this color scheme (3nd picture) that made it look SO nice. I checked bersa's site and their picture makes it look ugly (2nd pic). I may have to go with the bersa i saw if that one looks good in person.

Again, the Astra Constable was NOT a SIG clone. It came first. I guess you if go strictly on looks (as you appear to be doing) could almost describe the SIG as a Constable clone (which in turn was a Mauser clone).

Look for a certified pre-owned P232. There are police trade ins that were used as BUG's available if you hunt around.

The P232SL shoots as well as it looks. It's one of my favorite guns to shoot, despite the fact that it's "only" a .380!

Be careful playing the lookalike game. I have 2 Hi-Power copies. Nothing wrong with either and they shoot very well. Still, I'm yearning for a genuine Hi-Power - the FN variety b/c I like the new rollmark. Point is, you settle for something less than what you want, you'll either be chronically disappointed or you'll end up getting what you want later and you'll still be out the price of the lookalike!

I just picked up a 232 stainless that looks to be unfired. Don't know why I did it, last thing I needed was another .380. But, I can tell you I've always liked the 230 stainless for some reason and this has been in the back of my mind for a while. Paid $400 for it and thought it was a killer deal (the gun has factory night sights). Poke around for what you want; good deals are out there. BTW, my dad liked mine so much he went right out a bought a new one identically equipped from the same dealer and paid $535 for it.

That's true, but FWIW, I'd rather have a Mauser HSc than its lookalike P232. I was not reallly happy with the design or the quallity (particularly at the price) of the P232. I'd probably avoid the Constable, though.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree that this particular model is overpriced. Sigs generally are a little on the rich side, but nothing like the HKs. $800 for a plastic (oh, excuse me, POLYMER) framed gun (best local price on a P2000)? No thank you.

Jc2 whats your reasonings for sayind you'd avoid the Constable? If the Constable came first it should be reliable and Sig based their p232 around it. This is just my assumption.

I plan on taking my time and waiting for the right gun to fall in my lap. I'm just not in the position to spend Sig money right now and i'd like to get into shooting this moment. Tomorrow ill hit up a few pawn shops and some gunstore/shooting ranges to see what local prices look like. Maybe one of these ranges will have a Constable that i can test out.

Astra Constable

The Constable pictured is the one screw version. To an Astra collector that one is precious and hard to find. Most of the total production was the two screw version, there were two screws in the grip.
The early versions had a firing pin design problem in that the firing pin could touch and imprint the primer while the hammer was down. I believe that these were the one screw model.
The Constable is an accurate, well made firearm but somewhat heavy for a 380 ACP at 30 oz. It was commonly issued as a duty weapon in some European countries. There was a 22 LR version and a high cap 380 as well. Astra has long since gone out of business so parts and mags will be a problem. I think the Walther, SIG, Mauser Hsc, Browning (FN model 10) and Rem 51 were the best looking 380s made. The CZ 83 is probably the best for shooting. The Bersa is cost effective reliable and accurate, a combination that is hard to beat.

The Bersa is a perfectly acceptable gun, and it does look better in person than in pictures. With that said, i own and am pleased with, the Bersa, and i still have my eyes open for a nice Sig 232, they are just really sweet guns.

Shope around a bit, $600 is WAY too much for a 232, i have seen them go for more like $400ish around here.

Really bad photography, but looks reasonably well kept. Can't say whether it's a good deal or not b/c it's a reserve auction and the seller didn't post the reserve (they do occasionally and sometimes if you e-mail them, they'll tell you). I honestly couldn't think of a going price for this, as I've seen so few used. Maybe $350?
