So i have this 18" ontario machete. Found it in the trash. Assuming because of the chip out of the balde. am i gonna devalue this piece if i remove about 4" of blade? I was gonna reprofile it to some other shape. If that chip devalues it. I'll probably reprofile it. Thanks!

They sell new for about $25 and you got it for free. Do what you want, it's not going to lose much value even if you ruin it. Not that it is a bad machete, I have one just like it, but it isn't highly collectable.

Ive had one for 20+ years and it is a good, high-quality machete, but as JMR said, they arent expensive, so do as you want with it.

Actua kinda pumped to see the pics when your done with it.

You could also duplicate my US marked Ontario bolo, a $4 garage sale grab.

Nothing wrong with reshaping it. Best I recall they are 1095 steel.

You can call Ontario and they will send you a set of handles and rivets. New plastic, not the old plastic.

That looks pretty good to me. I find 18" to be longer than I want most of the time anyway.

I have a 14" Collins that fits in my backpack and has done about everything I need a large knife to do when camping for the last 40 years. Looks about like yours.
