OK, I just ordered a .31 cal Remmy Pocket revolver from Kings Forge. I'm trying to get supplies together for shooting so I can be ready when it arrives, the local Sheels only has .31 cal round balls which are too small. I recently read that
0 buckshot is .32 cal and 00 buckshot is .33 cal. A local gun shop has 00 buckshot in 5lb. bags but it has 3% antimony as a hardener, will that make it too hard to press into the chambers as a ring will have to be shaved off for them to fit. it would save $$ over buying round balls by the box of 100. So, if anyone has tried this I'ld like to know what the results were before I buy 5 lbs. of the stuff.

Thank,s G D

Even though the Traditions manual recommends .315 balls for the Pietta Remington .31 Pocket, some folks say that ball is too small and to try the Hornady 00 buckshot.
However the chamber mouths should be measured just to be sure.
Not every brand of shot measures or loads the same depending on the antimony. And not everyone recommending to use buckshot owns a Pietta, although some do.
Lastly, I recall that some folks have mentioned that the .31 Remmy's loading lever assembly is weak which can cause it to bend or break.
Loading the buckshot off the gun using a press would make loading them easier due to the 3% antimony.

I have using Hornady "0" buck in my little 31, and all my target pistols and
rifles for over 30 years. Yes it is 3% antomoty and 97% pure lead. But you can mark it with your thumbnail and it is soft enough for muzzleloading purposes. I have weighed a bunch and measured them also. They are very
uniform. The only thing tho, Hornady don't make them anymore. I boiught up
a large supply when I heard about this. So I'm set for life. There is another
company who makes them, but they are very costly. About 30.00 for 8 lbs.
The Hornady's were 12.00 for 5 lbs.
I just checked and the price is 35.00 for 8 lbs. But they show backorder. Looks fishy to me. I'm going to call Monday morning.

Thanks for all the replies. "0" buckshot is impossible to find right now, "00" buck is still available, I was able to get a 5 pound box of Hornadays from a local gun shop.
I think it will just shave a bigger ring and seat better. I'm hoping the loading lever is sturdy enough to do the job, I really like making up paper cartidges for my .44 and am looking forward to doing the same for this, the paper cartridges save alot of loading time when we are out shooting but thats for another thread. If the rain stops we'll go out and give this a go!

Thanks, G D

00 Buck

I have a .31 brass frame Remington and have always used 00 buck in it with no problems.

I broke the loading lever on my little Rem... Very fragile!! I cast 0 buck, for mine and it works well. I also bought a little brass mold from a guy on ebay...he always has the little brass two cavs for sale too.

Anyone seen this before? It looks like when they were milling the cylinder it slipped and created a spur on the edge of one of the chambers. I spoke to Will at Kings Forge (nice guy!) where i purchased it from, he said to send it to Traditions and they will replace it.
Also, anyone else that has one of these, does the hammer lock into the slots between the nipples? This cylinder does not have the slots cut into it deep enough for the hammer to lock into. I guess I could address that to the Traditions folks when I talk to them about the first problem.

Thanks, G D
