I have AA hulls
Winchester 12R wads.
Blue Dot
Winchester and CCi 209's
a bucket full of 00 buck shot.

Lyman's calls for 38g Blue Dot with 10 pellets of #0 buck, can I substitute 9 pellets of 00 in its lieu? Am I substituting a tit for a tat? Any experience would be greatly appreciated.

Ten 0 buckshot weighs approx 486 grains.
Nine 00 buckshot weighs approx 492 grains.

Or 6 grains differance.
There is probably more variation between ten pellets of either size.

SO, pretty much tit for tat.

Buckshot loads are "stacked". They are not loaded by weight. Some sizes just won't stack in a 12ga. shell. Some are stacked 4 to a layer, some 3 to a layer, and some 2 per layer. But not all sizes fit.

There's really only one source for buckshot loads, that's the Lyman shotshell handbook, "the bible". Ballistic products has some data in a load book, but the Lyman manual has them beat by a longshot!

Snuff, reread my post, the data is from the lyman book. Thank you though, Lymans just doesn't list a 00 with Blue Dot.
