Just wanted to run this by you guys. Never loaded buck shot before.

Hull: 12G Winchester AA plastic form

Powder: 800-X @ 24.5 grains

Primer: Winchester 209

Wad: WAA12R 1 3/8 oz wad. For 9 balls of 00 buck

Wad: WAA12 1 1/8 oz was for 8 balls of 00 buck.

They have a real nice crimp to them, looks factory. Did not use any buffer/ filler.

What do you think?

Shotgun loads should always follow tested loads from a manual to the letter. If he load is out of a manual then it will work safely. If it is something you put together using bird shot data it may or may not be safe.

You can find buckshot data in the Lyman Shotgun manual and at Hodgdon.com load data.

I find buckshot inexpensive enough to buy commercial loaded ammo as I don't shoot that much of it.

From Hodgdon's website.

Looks like maximum for bird shot. Dont know about buck. I would start at 22 gr. ?? If your data is from a good published source, then its OK. I have worked up slug loads with Unique. The sound tells you if its a light load. ALWAYS CHECK THE BARREL BEFORE FIRING THE NEXT ROUND.

It's the max load for my 1 3/8 oz pheasant load.

I loaded under the 1 3/8 oz weight with the buckshot by at least 60 grains or 1 pellet of buck shot. Depending on wad of course. My book from the 90's shows the psi of 1 1/8 oz load and that comb at 8800 psi. I am within 20 grains of 1 1/8 oz and 60 grains under 1 3/8 oz which is what would be the max load.

The pattern test will tell the tale.

I can almost guarantee a buffered load will shoot tighter than a non buffered, and using hard cast or plated buckshot instead of the soft lead swaged buckshot will tighten it up even more.

Make sure the recipe you use calls for buffer and follow all safe reloading practices.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
