03A3 sight removal

How can I remove the rear sight U from a 1903A3?
It appears to be dovetailed. slid in from the left side
then pinned or peened on the right. I was considering
grinding a bit at the peen and trying to drift it off.
I'm not sure how it's held in place though and am
afraid of boogering it up.

I would appreciate any and all help.

They are staked in place. You should be able to drive it out of the dovetail from right to left.
