Hi fellows I was wondering if I have to have store hours if I decided to get my 07 FFL instead of my 01 Gunsmithing FFL. I would like to have the legal ability to do kit builds as well as modify so I need the 07. However I am not sure of the particulars pertaining to gun sales. With an 07 can I still deal like an 01 dealer? I would like to be able to make a little change on the side just turning out a few new/used guns also. BTW I live in a loose area in terms of zoning, as in there is none. Thanks

You can do everything with an 07 you can do with an 01 (I have both). However you will be in for some fun when you get to find out about the State Department and ITAR.

Well i know some about ITAR like the fees but I am unclear on the amounts. My ATF books say one thing, every single person says another. One gun guy around here says he only pays $500 . So anywhere between 500 to 2500 bucks. The State Dept I know nothing about. I was under the impression from the manual you only had to pay the extra if you were going to custom load ammo, but then it is a rather murky book to read so Im just not sure. Any input?

Figures they sent me a 2005 rule book just a few months ago. Now it makes more sense. And yes the State Dept page looks very daunting. I am not a fan of paperwork but I will not be dissuaded. Not yet;)

Yes, you must have "store hours" ... appointment only isn't acceptable anymore.

Of course, nothing says what those hours must be. 2 - 3 pm on Saturday only? Mine are 1 - 5pm M-F.

Now another thing, the $2250 does or does not include the ability to sell custom ammo, and I still have to pay another 500 to do Title 2 silencers/sbr's and whatnot, right?.... I need to get a new rulebook.

Where do you get this stuff?

:scrutiny:
There is no ATF requirement to have "store hours". What IS required is that the licensee have "business hours"..... hours that you will devote time and attention to your business of manufacturing or dealing in firearms. There is no Federal law or ATF regulation that requires an FFL to be open to the public either.

And your application will require you to list those business hours. You are free to change them as you wish and there is no requirement to be open for business any particular number of hours each day or week.

ATF will only schedule your compliance inspections during the "business hours" shown on your FFL application.

I swear.....I could write a book on all the made up/invented/nonexistent ATF regulations that I read about on the internet.:(

The 07FFL Manufacturer can manufacture firearms AND ammunition: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/manufacturers.html

ATF sends ot the "rulebook" on CD now. You can always download the info right at atf.gov http://www.atf.gov/publications/firearms/

Yessah that clears things up quite nicely for me. Thanks! 07 is the one for me I guess. Now I have to obtain a facility to put my business in. I could start where I am now but the likelyhood of a move is too great and I don't want the nightmare of changing the location of my FFL just yet.

Store Hours, Business hours, potato, potahto.

The point I was trying to make (to answer the OP's question) is that "by appointment" isn't acceptable an more. You must specify some hours.

While its true that you must keep business hours, the business hours can be as little as 30 minutes open each week. An acquaintance of mine who became a 01 holder 2 years ago put those hours on his app and got it approved.
