(1) I was about 95% sure that I was going to get an autoloader pistol for my first handgun. However, today my buddy brought his Ruger P95DC and S&W 38 Special (think it was S&W) over and we walked back into the woods and target practiced on some printed targets.

I had trouble loading the magazines after 5 or so rounds went into it. They were 10 round capacity magazines. It just got harder to put them in there. I got a little better at it after about 75 rounds. It sure was EASY to reload that 38 Special though! I never thought that would be that big of a deal, but it got annoying. I just think it would be much more enjoyable to target practice without so much difficulty loading the weapon.

(2) The trigger pull was long on the revolver if the hammer wasn't already pulled back. I didn't know that you would have to pull the hammer back each time after that. Otherwise it was "dual action". I suppose. It took a LONG trigger pull. I'm new with handguns. I need to do a little reading up on revolver actions.

I've also noticed that long-guns with tube magazines and double action revolvers acutally are quicker and easier to load once you have emptied the magazines.

I agree with you on the trouble with loading some brands of magazines. I have a couple of Beretta 10-shot mags that Godzilla himself couldn't get loaded.

Shooting a revolver double-action takes more practice, but if the gun has a decent DA trigger pull (and a S&W should) you can get the hang of it in due time. Until then, single action is available. I've been shooting revolvers for years and I find the larger the caliber the more likely I am to cock the hammer back first.

A good pair of stocks ("grips") that fit you well are the best investment you can make for accurate & comfortable DA revolver shooting.

10 is about the most rounds I can get into my magazines before I need to use the little tool Glock provides to load the mazagines. It is a small piece of plastic that presses down the round in the mag a little further than you could with your hands so you can fit the next catridge in. These are standard capacity 17 round magazines.

It gets easier with practice.

It seems to me that you need to at least double what your considering easy for the revolver loading. Thinking loading total of 12 vs total of 6, unless your using those cool clips on your revolvers where the rounds are wired together, dont know what they are called.

I have been a revolver shooter for over 30 years. I prefer revolvers for their simplicity, reliability, and accuracey. Not to mention the shear beauty of them. They balance well and triggers are so much better than the current autos. When I pick up a revolver I feel the gun and I am totally comfortable with it. Autos always left me cold. Don't get me wrong, I have a couple of autos myself, but if the chips are down, I reach for a revolver. I think revolvers get the short end of the stick anymore and that is a real shame. The magazines are really bad about ignoring the revolver. All they write about anymore is autos.

They did the same thing with Leveraction rifles. The 30-30 for instance has killed deer for over a hundred years. Now days you here how impotant it is and how you need a .500 Elephant Poofer to hunt the same deer. Duh, deer haven't become superdeer, but this is the way people think now days. The magazines finally killed Winchester and that is a shame. True sport hunting where sneaking up on the deer is almost gone, now they shoot them from 400 yards.

:scrutiny:

Nothing wrong with the wheel guns. Got a nice pair of SA rugers in .357 to go with the .357 lever gun. Lots of fun..
Loading mags for semis just takes practice. And thumbs of steel. Otherwise get a LULA or some other aid to make it easier. People are just different in
what they like and can handle well. Thats why we have variety. Its a good thing.

I have a Beretta 92FS

9mm. I first shot two my nephew has and I could only load about 5 cartridges in the magazines before I became unable to do so. When I bought my gun I paid about 10 dollars and got a plastic tool that helps me load all 15 in each of my magazines. The little tool fits easily in my shooting box with my other tools that I take to the range. No problem. Works great. I am 63 and my hands/fingers not very strong and this tool works wonders. It is an AKS brand or something like that. Just ask your shooting supplier for speadloaders.

The reloading gadgets make it so much easier it's stupid. Be sure to get the higher quality ones, and look at ones that will reload multiple types. I have one for my 1911 magazines, it's a wonderful thing to have. Even better is the one for my rifle, as a thirty round magazine is no fun with your thumb.
