I have an Outback on the way, and want a rifle to put it on. Im considering a 10-22, if there any aftermarket barrels available with threads? I want something heavy contour.

Tac-sol makes threaded barrels, but lots of people have accuracy complaints. Apparently they're better than the stock barrels, but not up to something like Green Mountain or Volquartsen.

Tactical Innovations also produces threaded barrels, but I don't know much of anything about the performance there. They're also sporter contour, so you're probably not interested.

Remember that you could have darn near any barrel threaded after you get it, though.

Just a suggestion

when you get the Outback, which is a great can , by the way, take it and a barrell you like to a good gunsmith and have him fit the can. The shoulders have to match up and the ones I have done, he basicly mated the can to the bore of the gun. THis way, the can matches the bore of the gun and not the external dimensions.

I got a threaded Green Mountain for mine after hearing issues with Tac Sol barrels and praises for G.M. There is a guy on ebay, username Hi-desertdog (he's a member on rimfire central I think) that sells threaded Green Mountains and stockers for a reasonable price. They are bore-aligned. I haven't gotten a can on mine yet but I'm happy with it and it shoots one ragged hole. Nice guy to deal with too in my experience.
This should link to his items: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZhi-desertdogQQhtZ-1

If you want high end, Volquartsen is an option. They make a 1/2"x28 adapter for their barrels that have their compensator. You can remove the compensator, attach the adapter, and screw the suppressor onto the adapter.

They specifically recommend this setup for use with their tensioned barrels, which can't be threaded because of the way they're designed. Of course, it'll also work with their standard heavy bull barrels.

doesn't get any better than this volquartsen barrel:
(from their website)
10/22 Muzzleweighted Barrel (1:9 Twist)
This barrel is specifically designed to shoot the Aguila 60gr SSS ammo. It features a special 1:9" twist. Our muzzle weighted barrels for the Ruger 10/22 are designed for the shooter who requires match grade accuracy while using the factory sporter stock. The muzzleweighted barrels offer superb balance whether it is used for competition or serious plinking. The barrel eliminates the problem found on other factory contoured barrels. A normal contoured barrel decreases in accuracy as the contour increases due to the expansion of the bore. The match muzzle weighted barrels utilize the factory contour part of the stock but it then contours back to .925" O.D. This in effect, creates a "choked" barrel allowing for outstanding accuracy! Made of stainless steel, 16.5" long, weighs approx 2lb 3oz. There is a limited supply of these barrels that remain - once they are gone we will no longer be offering the 9" twist muzzleweighted barrel.

if they're out. PM me. I might sell mine (although not at that price :) ). I bought 3 and have an extra, with thread protector (which was an extra $20 or so)

I'd go with a rifle that doesn't require hundreds of dollars worth of modifications to be halfway accurate. Maybe a CZ bolt action.

Here's one
Website says out of stock but you can check with him and get an eta on new arrivals. Green Mountains have been in short supply for several months (I heard they were doing a military contract or something).
