Ok folks, I've searched on here and found a few threads about Ruger 10/22 replacement barrels but nothing that addresses specifically what I want to ask.

I want to suppress a Ruger 10/22 and a Ruger 22/45 with the same suppressor (likely a Huntertown Arms Guardian 22Ti). My factory 10/22 barrel is one of the 22" models and that is just too long for a 10/22 from my research. Ideally, a 10/22 should be between 16"-18" from what I've read. It has had a trigger upgrade. I intend this rifle to be a plinker/hunter that a child can learn to shoot and carry for squirrel and rabbit hunting.

I've investigated replacement barrel options and come across a company that is local to me called FJ Feddersen Inc. I've visited their shop and gotten to handle one of their barrels. Out the door, one of those barrels will cost me about $185. Does anyone know about them or own one?

I already know I don't want a bull barrel contour, even if it's one of the lightweight carbon wrapped options. They are just too expensive.

I'd eventually like my son (will turn 6 in January) to be able to use it in a Project Appleseed event.

What would you do...get an unknown barrel or cut and thread the factory barrel? The cut and thread job would cost right around $100 after I receive the suppressor and the gunsmith would thread the barrel to the suppressor. I've heard that threading a .22 barrel is more difficult to get concentric for some reason (maybe specific to Ruger barrels). Don't know if it's true or not.

So, what are the options and what would you do?

There shouldn't be a problem with cutting and threading a factory 10/22 barrel. My fully suppressed one was built using factory barrel, cut down to approximately 10" and covered by a combination of expansion chamber and baffles to make it a (semi) permanent 21". The gunsmith I used has made literally hundreds of similar conversions and it turned out great. It's more accurate than it ever was with stock full length barrel and with the right ammo, quieter than most pellet guns.

If you insist on having a removable, threaded suppressor, I'd recommend gauging the barrel and cutting it at the first tight spot over 16" to maximize accuracy potential. There's no reason why it couldn't be done.

If you are going to keep the factory barrel, I'd recommend sending it to Que...have him work on the chamber and have him cut/thread your barrel.

Many on RFC like the Fedderson barrels. I'm a fan of anything KIDD...even though KIDD isn't exactly inexpensive.

Another vote for Kidd, I have one of their 16" light weight barrels and it is phenomenal!

barrel

I have two 10/22's setup with the Tactical Solutions bull barrel made from aluminum and they are light and shoot great. You can get them already threaded..
