I just picked up a used 10/22 that needs some serious cleaning. I've always been a handgun guy and so don't know too much about rifles. Does anyone have a link or directions on how to detail strip the 10/22 (tricks, tips, etc.).

Thanks!

Just be careful when you take it apart for the first time. 10/22s are great guns but things tend to fall out of the reciever when you take it apart if you aren't watching. Very loose tolerances.:banghead:

Out of the box, the pins and bolts on/in a 10/22 should be pretty tight. Its after you run a brick or three and a few take-downs that this will start to fall out by themselves during disassembly. Particularly the recoil and trigger housing pins. Being used, be prepared for these pins to fall out when you tip the receiver (when it is out of the stock).

It's a failry simple process. Do you know how to change the brake pads, turn the rotors, and bleed the brakes on your car? If you do and you didn't learn with an instruction manual, you'll do fine on the 10/22. It's not that difficult. That having been said, a can of Action Blaster is probably the better way to go. You can get the whole job done in about five minutes tops. Follow it up with some Brake Free and compressed air. Just remember to wear something that won't get ruined and do it outside, away from the wife's rose bushes!

I say just clean in with some gunscrubber and then re oil it. That should be much easier than breaking it all down, then putting it back together. But if that doesn't work, then go for the complete breakdown.
