At home, posting on THR instead of working.
I notice that the downloadable manual for the 10/22 for ruger's website gives field stripping instuctions but it's all in descriptive form. Can anyone here tell me how I get get hold of ILLUSTRIATED 10/22 disassembly instructions?

Also, what should I look out for when cleaning a 10/22?

Any advice what I should look out for when cleaning a 10/22? What are the areas I should pay attention to for a quick cleaning and what are the parts that I should look at of I have time for a detailed maintenance session?
For a quick cleaning, wipe off the bolt face and bolt recess (the spot where the bolt goes over the case head). Also wipe off the breech face (the end of the barrel that contacts the bolt).

Other than that you dont really need to clean it much. You should clean it when reliability drops.
BTW, you should give it a detailed cleaning and lube when it's new before you shoot it.

Depends on the ammo you're using. Some leave much more powder residue than others.

Could also be a function of running lubed lead versus copper washed bullets. I usually shoot lubed lead, but they do leave more gunk in the action. And some have a lot more lube than others. One of my favorite accuracy rounds, Wolf Match Target, are absolutely greasy to the touch. Lotsa gunk in the area of the bolt face, but they keep on chuggin through the action.

I generally shoot 150-200 rounds per outing and always clean afterwards, but I have gone as many as 400 rounds during a weekend away from home without cleaning. Didn't have a problem.

Sounds like you've given yourself a fun "Run Until Failure" experiment for a sunny afternoon. You might have to pack a lunch.:D
