I recently bought a base model Ruger 10/22 and want to scope it. Since the gun is for plinking and didn't cost me a chunk of change, I am not going silly with the scope. I am pretty set on the Simmons .22 Mag scope.

Anyone have this scope? The Ruger came with a Weaver rail and the Simmons advert says it comes with rings- but not if they are weaver or picatinny. Just looking for some clarity.

Yep, I just ordered the same Simmons scope and it should arrive in a few days. I'm qurious about the mounting as well

I bought one of those scopes for my son's 10/22 last November to use at Appleseed. It is a nice scope and I liked it so much I bought another one to put on one of my Marlin 795s for plinking. It comes with 22 scope rings which will fit on the narrow part of the Ruger rail. You can also use regular scope rings. The Ruger accommodates both types. The only thing I don't like is the rings that come with the scope are too high. Most people won't notice but I have this thing about proper cheek weld.

BTW, those scopes are very popular at Appleseed. I saw a ton of them on 10/22s which is how I came to get one.

I have one on a Mini 14 and it is still working, quite well I might add. I figured it would take a dump as Mini's are pretty hard on scopes. It holds zero and has so far not let me down, going on a year now.

Actually Simmons makes a couple different 22 Mag scopes. They make an 3-9X AO one and a non AO one. The AO stands for Adjustable Objective which means you can focus it to account for the parallax at different distances. The AO one is about $30 more than the non-AO one. They also make a fixed 4x 22 Mag scope which is even cheaper.

I bought the AO versions for my son and myself. The non-AO would be find however and is what I recommended for my brother and his daughter and which he bought. AO is better for target shooting. Doesn't make much difference for hunting or plinking.

I have the exact scope on my ruger 10/22 synthetic/stainless. It was a gander mountain exclusive. Apparently ruger seems to think it is a good match (the 4x 22 mag). I have to say it works great and has never given me a problem. Oh, and mine is the adjustable objective model.

Mac, I think you forgot to mention this model, like I said it is a 4x 22 mag with the adjustable eyepiece.

Neither, the rings are dovetail which means they fit on a .22 grooved receiver. You should not need the rail as your Ruger should have grooves for the rings. However, if you want you could buy weaver type rings for a more solid mount or mount a center fire scope. Come to think of it, it may be a rail for .22 rings on your Ruger. I'd get the scope then see if you need a different rail or rings.

I'm not sure anyone answered the mouting question. I checked the Simmons website at http://www.simmonsoptics.com/riflescopes/22_mag.cfm and the picture shows what looks to be weaver style mouting scope rings. It looks like it will be necessary to mount the Ruger provided rail. If anyone can answer this question from experience, please chime in. Thanks.

I had to mount the ruger supplied rail, and then mount the simmons scope (included) to it.
