10/22 steel lips or plastic lips

I've used the ten-round metal-lipped factory mags and plastic-lipped Butler Creek 25-round banana mags for the 10/22 and both have worked fine. But the plastic-lipped one hasn't seen any really heavy use or abuse, so I can't judge really well. But if you baby the guns you have around you like I do, things break less.

If you are talking hi cap mags, go with Tactical Innovations. They have great adjustable, take down and clean mags. Prices are about $34. I was told a ffl can get them for around $24 if they buy 50 or more at 1 time. Sounds like a group buy to me. Thanks Mac

Never had any success with aftermarket mags. Factory mags always worked 100%.

Always had trouble with 25 and 50 round plastic lipped 10/22 magazines. I think part of the problem may have been intense rates of fire and melting/deformation. Maybe this could have been avoided.

I now have 25 round steel lips but haven't really tried them out yet.

Steel lips, definitely. If you have trouble feeding from the high capacity magazines, try a variety of ammo. My 10/22 likes Remington Golden Bullets, but sometimes still jams. Remington hyper velocity rounds like Vipers work great. The extra bit of recoil seems to strip off the next round much better.

First off, 10/22's don't use clips. i'm sure you could modify one to accept clips, but it wouldn't be worth the money.

Now for mags, I've tried several (Eagle Accessories, butler creek, etc). I've had so-so functionality. My newest mag on order is Tactical industries steel lips. Their a little more expensive than the others ($34) but, they allow custom fitting and full dissasemble for cleaning, both of which i highly recommend. 10/22 mags get dirty quick.

I use both 25rd plastic lips and the factory 10rd steel lipped magazines in my 10/22 and I haven't had a jam with either one of them yet. However, I would think that the steel lips would resist wear much better and I think the extra investment might help.

Have had BC Hot Lips mags (4 in use) for almost 20 years now with no problems. Since I've never had problems, I've never gotten Steel Lips. (A friend and I had tried out all of the high cap mags in the early '90s and the BCs were the only ones that worked.)

Did buy some TI plastic and aluminum mags at the NRA show to see how they do.

I've used both with no problems. I hear that the 50 round drum is crap though. I usually go to cheaperthandirt.com and read the buyer ratings on a mag before I purchase them.

your bolt will wear the plastic lip down and the bullets will start to eject straight up GET STEEL FOR REAL

It sounds like you've already got your answer, but I'll throw in a confirmation for the steel lips. It's all I use now, and I've put about 5 bricks through my 10/22 in the last two months. If you want to try a speed loader, I like the Butler Creek one, stay away from the Shooter's Ridge brand. I had one shatter in my hand.

+1 and no idea why. it's not like those are complicated or something, factory always works and none of the half-dozen or so hot lips and steel mags i have work at all. and i mean they're complete crap.

Never had a problem with any of the Butler Creek mags, but would think the steel will last longer. I have actually had better luck with the 10 round steel lip Butler Creek mags than with factory mags. They are long enough to get in and out of the gun easier than factory and are short enough to be out of the way.
