Has anyone seen a gas piston retrofit kit for a carbine length gas system that uses a low profile gas block(or i guess gas piston chamber)? i.e. a gas piston kit the will fit entirely under a round style quad rail? I have a mid-length handgaurd on a 10.5 inch barrel. (also a 7 inch with a carbine length handgaurd i might consider it with)

I dont know much about these gas piston systems but it appears they all work with the standard handgaurds. It looks like they all use the triangular handgaurd cap with them and either a regular front sight post or a railed gas block.

does the piston need to be supported be some other means as it goes thru the barrel nut?

I'm really thinking about one of these gas piston kits, with a suppressor my rifle gets pretty gunked up and I get quite a bit of gas blowing back into my face seems like this piston thing might be the perfect solution as long as I can modify my current uppers instead of buying a whole new complete gas piston upper just to get the set up i like back.

thanks for the help!

I'm looking for pretty much the same thing. I'm setting up a 10.5" with the gas port in the pistol location for a .300 whisper setup.

huh...I havent seen a 10.5 inch with the gas port in the pistol location...but im not familiar with the platform in a 300 whisper. We may be out of luck though no one appears to have an answer for us...

Seems to me as though the Osprey Defense piston kit would work well for your application. It's shaped to have enough mass to be reliable, but be very very low profile. Seems like it slips nicely under most rail systems. I haven't used one yet, but it appears to use the existing, or whatever you've put on there, DI gas block.

I've been looking to do this on a BCM 12.5" "Kino" upper. Carbine gas system with mid length sights. I'm 6'4" 220lbs, so carbine length hand guards are like pegs that are too high on a motorcycle, just uncomfy. So a piston system that fits under the rails would be perfect.

I think this is our best bet that is out right now. I think Addax Tactical might be able to do a custom job... for a price. I also know LWRC has a low profile piston and block on a bunch of their products, but don't seem to offer the piston kit separately.

This is the thread I'm reading right now on the Osprey Defense offering... Looks pretty good once you've got it settled in.

Hope this helps. (I was looking around for a solid two days in my free time before I found a kit that seemed like it could work)
