I'm interested in getting an update from those in the know about current gas piston AR type rifles available. I already own different ARs and the gas piston variant would just be one more type for me to play with.

I don't want to get into arguments about whether gas piston uppers are better than direct impingement. I just want to know who among the current gas piston manufacturers seems to have the best reputation. From what I have heard, quality has been spotty and often times less reliable than the standard AR direct impingement system.

Heckler & Koch ( www.hk-usa.com/le_hk416_general.html ) is the best out of all the gas-piston ARs. However, the cost of an upper is currently only in the realm of hardcore H&K collectors.

Leitner-Wise Rifle Company ( www.lwrifles.com ) makes the second best.

Patriot Ordnance Factory ( www.pof-usa.com/P-416/P-416upper.html ) & Bushmaster ( www.bushmaster.com/shopping/weapons/bcwa3f16m4-gp.asp ) are considered the same.

Why bother, just get a Robinson Arms XCR ( www.robarm.com ) if you want a gas-piston rifle that uses AR mags. :neener:

I'd also like to know what makes this person the piston expert??? I see some people on ARF are testing another gas piston made by Ares. It is a kit that you can use on your existing AR15. It also won't break the bank at $400 for the kit.
