1. I don't have to lug my an m16 around :p
2. Its light, and I woulden't mind lugging it around.
3. When I low crawl, it wont rip my thumb off because it weighs a million pounds.
4. It'll be lighter to hold in the air when im doing flutter kicks because we're getting smoked from not securing our gear :(
5. When I accidently poke my barrel on the ground, my instructs cant yell at me for treating my weapon like crap because I know they saw the same video I did where they dropped it in water, and sand, and all that stuff.
6. Its light.
7. Its light.
8. Low recoil for the win!
9. Plastic. Oh yes. Plastic.
10. This is suposed to be semi-funny and semi-true :p Dont flame me.

Yea. You all think cadet land is some walk in the park :p Not for the kids that wanna get ready for all those hooah hooah high speed schools we get to apply for in our third and fourth year. Anyone here actually LIKE their m16?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :fire: :fire: :banghead: :banghead: :fire: :cuss: :banghead: :banghead: :fire: :banghead: :banghead:

Damnit. Well. Maybe its because they're going to move to an even better weapon...God I hope so.

Weapons are supposed to be heavy...it's a reminder of the responsibility that comes along with carrying one. :D

Besides...one of the reasons the XM8 got the ka-bosh was because it wasn't as "super-light" as advertised. ;)

...and by ka-bosh I mean "temporarily shelved" for lack of funding.

Rub some dirt in it, Nancy. The M16A2 is light as a feather. Having carried the M14 and the M16A3 on duty, I have no complaints about the weight.

Like another poster said, try carrying the SAW or the 240, and the 16 will seem like nothing.

Oh and since when do recruits get i-net access?

2. Its light, and I woulden't mind lugging it around.
The M4 is lighter than the XM8, has a 2" longer barrel, yet has the same overall length. The only good part about the XM8 was that you got 5 pounds of HK marketing literature and a free mini-bottle of AXE body spray a $20 value absolutely free!

10. This is suposed to be semi-funny and semi-true :p Dont flame me.
Where was the semi-true part? Flame flame flame!!!!11!1!one!!! :neener:

Hmph. I'm currently in cadet-land, too.

I carried the M16-A4 in Basic. Heavy bugger.

I unfortunately carried a M-224 cannon, with M8 baseplate and bipod attached, for quite a few marches while stationed at Fort Lewis. Trust me, the M16- or for that matter, the M-249 or even the M-240-B- is light in comparison!

Can't say I like the M4, but I've put more rounds downrange with it than anything else, so if I had to repel the alien hordes tonight, it'd be my first choice. Just as long as I don't have to crawl in sand with it...

Don't count on it, the XM-8 is, as mentioned already, done with.

Not like the M-16 is a heavy rifle. The M-16 is very lightweight. Be thankful you didn't join up during the '40s when you would be carrying a M1 Garand, or in the '50s you would get the M-14.

How much does a M-16 weigh? Once again, my response to #2 goes here.

Not much lighter, and why didn't you secure your gear in the first place?

Better not poke any barrel into the ground unless you want a bulged barrel. If you are going to rely on your rifle to save your life, you better treat it right.

They might have thrown a rifle into sand and water and mud, but the atleast cleared the barrel. No mechanism will clear the barrel of 4" of mud without risking blowing it up.

I would suggest, unless you want to end up like the group of soldiers that Jessica Lynch was with, take care of your rifle.

8. Low recoil for the win!

None of the AR-15/M4 type rifles I have ever shot had any considerable recoil. It's a 5.56 round, a varmint round for petes sake, it's not like it has a ton of recoil.

Yeah, plastic makes everything better. If plastic was really tougher than steel, sky scrapers would be made out of it.

Once again, wheres the true part. :D

I must say, your post did make me laugh though.

Good luck through your training. :)

When I qualified about a month ago, (35, darn it!) there was a shot or two towards the end that actually hurt. I was surprised to say the least, but when I was getting into the shower that night, I noticed that my shoulder was bruised.

'Bout the only thing I can figure, is that the overlong A2 stock (it's too long for "average" shooters, and I have a 12.5" LOP) was to blame...

They should make all of you shoot 1903 Springfield rifles all day to make you appreciate the M16's low recoil. :)

1903 beats an M44 in the kick dept.

For a good one, Steyr M95. Something about one of the heaviest WWII standard-issue loads in teh lightest gun doesn't make much sense. Real nice to cary around, up until the time you actually have to use it :)

Hey dude, where you been? The XM8 is in fact dead, it's in the coffin with a stake through it's heart and coins over it's eyes. The footings haven't even been poured on HKs much vaunted Columbus GA production center.

We've got a whole new joint program to come up with a new rifle. Provided you graduate on time and make 20 years, you might see a new rifle.

In the mean time, you might want to surf on over to Strategies and Tactics and check out this thread:

Before you make any career choices.

BTW I carried the M16 from December 1974 thru November 2003. I have used it in every climate this planet we live on has to offer. There is nothing wrong with it.

BTW, I hope your enlisted adviser doesn't see this post, you'd be humping the Javelin on the next dozen or so FTX's if I was your senior enlisted adviser. :D

Jeff

Ho-kay.

Think an M16 is heavy? Try humping an M60 with 200 rounds of ammo, along with full LBE and ruck for 12 miles within EIB standards (3 hours or less). Builds character!! :neener:

Seriously, thanks for your service and good luck. :)

P.S. Did I mention that the M60 is HEAVY??

...and why didn't you secure your gear in the first place?

"You have ten seconds to secure your gear. Ten, nine, five, one, TOO SLOW GET DOWN!"

And it only takes one guy in the platoon to miss the time hack and you're all gettin' the butter from the duck. Don't blame AechKay.

Oh, Jeff White, there you go again. Deflating Errornet salivation at yet another cool gun that will never see the light of day.:D You even made me laugh: HK's "production center"; how can something that will produce maybe 4 guns a year (only for the feds) be a "production center"?:D

On the bright side we have finally cured a virus! "Iwannacoolgun" virus has been cured by reality.:)

A dose of reality all around.:D

I like the M16, and the M4 and the M14 etc.

I carried a M16 A1, M16 A2 and M4. They all were lighter than the M1 that I carried Hunting 2 weeks ago. Hey, I liked them so much I bought an A2 and M4gery Ar15.

MechAg94,

I love my 03. When these silly SHTF threads pop up, if I actually reply, I mention that my 03 would probably be my first "do everything" rifle I'd grab. It has, of course, been reduced to my proper LOP. I've never noticed any pain, and certainly never been bruised while firing it.

I've never really noticed pain from my 91/30s, my M44, or my 1917, either. Doesn't mean there's no recoil or that I'd like to carry/shoot them all day.

Be happy with the M16 - it's not perfect, but it's good.
