I've been looking at buying some 10 round 1911 mags for my pistols. CMC, Wilson, and Tripp are the three options I'm looking at for mag sources. I've never used anything other than Wilson 47D eight round mags which work great in my pistols.

Lately we have had some home invasion robberies in our neck of the woods. The latest was led by not one or two, but FIVE thugs that broke in a home while the occupants were there.

For maximizing firepower out of my 1911 I'm considering some 10 round mags. Are the 10 round mags fit for serious social use in a 1911, or are they range toys?

I use mine at the range or as reload extra mags. They stick out too far to be concealed effectively.

I used Chip and Wilson in Lim 10 competition. What problems you will find are:

Chip is spaced by the wrap around plastic. I one day pounded a reload into the gun and the mag didn't stop until it hit the ejector. Plastic thing popped off.

Wilson's stop is a little 90deg metal tab that contacts the bottom of the frontstrap. Works good. Of about a dozen 10rd mags I own I broke one of them off on a reload. Mag jammed in gun of course.

With one old 1911 I had the wilson follower would put enough side pressure on the slide stop to push the slide stop about 1/16" out locking the gun up on the last round. I assume it was just good timing, it would be pushing on the slide stop as the takedown notch went past under recoil.

All in all I think the three you mentioned are good mags, just test them in your gun.

I have tried the Wilson and Tripp's. They worked just fine. One of my shooting buddy uses Tripp's for all his range work and they where 100% reliable.I could see using some for HD. Extra rounds in a proven platform works for me!

I've got a 5" steel 1911 that I don't carry, and use CMC 10 rounders in exclusively. Haven't had any problems. That said, I'd like to check out Tripp's magazines.

Chip's 10rd powermags are great! My primary is 8rd CMC (conceals better) but my backup mags are 1/2 10rds and 1/2 8rds. The 10rds are actually easier to seat quickly and make sure you have positive lock (I have mag wells on my 1911's)

They feed fine but you MUST make sure you use them at the range first to make sure they work in your firearm.

As an added bonus, the 10rd mags with a teacup hold gives you a bit better grip and can improve accuracy while rapid firing.
