Happy 4th of July!
Ever put something away to keep it safe? And you put it somewhere so "safe" that you can't find it?
The story begins 10 years ago. Dad introduced me to Woodford Reserve, which I really liked. Decided to splurge and buy myself a bottle. Tried it out. Then had some more. Then some more. Yeah, that Woodford is good whiskey! Then decided to surf E-Bay, looking at scopes. They had a good deal on a leupold X-III. A bit more Woodford convinced me to hit the "buy it now" button.
The next morning I was a little fuzzy. Saw my wallet next to the computer. Uh oh did I really? Yup. Really. But at least I got a good deal on a nice leupold.
2 weeks later the scope comes in the mail, brand new in box, a leupold X-III 2.5-10 x 40 matte with standard duplex. Nice scope! Certainly nicer than the Tasco I'd been using.
But we had to move. The scope was packed up to move. Yeah, I put it in a nice safe place. Real safe, you see, to protect it during the move. Oh, it was safe, alright. So safe that I couldn't find it when we unpacked. For years I looked for it, knowing that I'm the one who packed it so safely.
Then we moved again. We moved even more stuff this time. For months I looked through about 30 totes and boxes for that darn scope. Nothing. No scope.
A week ago we moved across town. I was unpacking a tote and...there it was, in the corner, wrapped in newspaper (?) from 10 years ago. Wow, it was like Christmas in June! It looks brand new, and appears to have traveled 1000 miles through 3 different states quite well.
So happy 4th, and that's my story of my "new" leupold scope. I can finally upgrade from the Tasco that sits on my .308, it's been there for years because, well, I couldn't afford to replace my lost scope! Feel free to comment on the VX-III if you know about it. I can't remember much about it. And watch out for that Woodford!
