S&W Magnesium H.R.T

... not that it's my favourite knife, but i`ve owned it,
liked it ... and consider it easily depöoyable ... and able for last resort defense.
...low price, high quality.

I came back to the 5 (it had to be sent off for service) after carrying a smaller lighter knife a while and I really do appreciate the sturdiness of it in a small package.

I don't find the price unreasonable for the quality.

Yo Mama - you paid $100+ for the CF Native 4 but think the 5 is too expensive... or do you have the 3 (FRN)?

I heard the 5 would be released in FRN. I do kinda wish I had waited because I actually prefer FRN for the feel and weight (weird huh?).

I know people like it but to me that translucent blue looks like it belongs on a toy.

No accounting for taste; just not my thing. The bright blue Endura on the other hand looks great to me.

No, I have the FRN, but thought for sure that it was the Native 4. I just checked Spyderco's website, and it looks like the 4 is in fact the CF, but mine doesn't look like the 3. It's the s30v. Now I'm all confused!

The Translucent manix2 is a full flat grind...i like that way better than the Spyderco Sabre Grind. The only G10 FFG that I can think of is the Sprint Run of the Blue G10 Manix2's
Unless some more have surfaced, i dont think they are under 100

Noah, I've had very good luck and service/use from CRKT knives. I've been carrying one of their Voyager models for several years now and for a $30.00 knife I've been very pleased.

Thanks for all the replies guys! See a lot of Spyderco reccomendations- and looks like I can get and Endura4 FFG for $50 with free shipping right now on Amazon. 3.75" VG-10 FFG blade with a good lock that's not a liner lock- good buy? Mantix looks very nice, but is just expensive for me. Maybe some other time ;)

Funny you should mention the S&W HRT. I have one that I break out now and then. I like it a lot, but always found the deployment slow for my hands, and the steel's pretty soft on it. But when it's sharp, it cuts and especially penetrates very well.

Thats a good buy for the Endura4....I paid over 60 for mine on amazon prime about a year ago, must be coming down...its a spine lock and its solid, theres a reason the Endura is one of the best selling spydies of all time

make sure you have a good way of sharpening it, the endura can take and hold a shaving edge

YM, the 3 also had/has S30v. It's a 3 (not a thing wrong with that...that is a knife I regret selling. Something was special about the heat treat on mine, it would hold an edge forever.)

Spyderco Tasman Salt can be had for $60 delivered.

Aside from current buzzwords like "hard use" (is there a demand for "soft use"?), it performs chores all day long and sometimes night as well.

The Endura is a fairly long knife, but thin. Yeah, $50 delivered is great. The Endura went to steel liners a few years ago, so between that and the backlock and the FRN (much stronger than you'd think), it's an extremely strong knife for its weight. I'd suggest the Delica before the Endura for most people. It looks like you'd only save a few bucks over the Endura, though.

Yeah, it was my first Spyderco, least carried, but would never get rid of. It was definately my gateway into Spyderco.

I recently discover the knife line-up over at 5.11Tactical. I bought three for less than $100. The are AUS8 steel and came razor sharp out of the box. They have some interesting designs if you are into something a little less traditional. They do use a liner lock but they lock up tight. You can move the clip to either end, either side. The ones i got came with an allen wrench and extra screws which I thought was a nice touch. All in all I am pretty impressed.
