EDC folder.. with a limit

40 dollar limit, I am looking for a nice EDC folder, doesn't have to be assisted opener, but does have to be able to open one handed.
I have owned a couple kershaws, but they always wear out on me, my leek even quit opening right, and my Blackout was sold off after 3 years and 2 new tips filed on it because the blade was too brittle.
But, I need something to last a while, and I really need it to be able to be a defensive knife too, thanks - JD

What were you doing with the tips of the Kershaws when the tips broke and, more importantly, what do you use a knife for?

There are a lot of good inexpensive folders under $40 out there. We just had a thread covering American made products that suggested knives from Buck, Bear, and others.

My leek broke, won't open anymore, my kershaw blackout tip broke while opening a box of target clays where I used to work.
I'm going to try to go to bass pro tomorrow or the next, I'll see what they have If my funds don't run dry buying reloading powder / primers.

You're looking to stay in the $40 range, so we'll pass on the Vantage Pro.

Depending on where you shop, you can find the Vantage Avid (Sandvik steel) in the $40 range or, failing that, the Vantage Select in 420HC is priced in the mid thirties.

And wasn't there a link to a special on Kershaw Zings? In Sandvik steel?

Although, I have to say, if you can get a Spyderco in your price range (like, say, a Native, though they're usually in the low fifties), you'll have to apply serious abuse to wreck one.
