As I remember the difference between the two was that the 1006 had a hammer drop/safety on the slide (standard 3rd Generation DA/SA trigger arrangement). The 1076 has a hammer drop ala Sig (on the left side of the grip panel) and no safety. This was something the FBI wanted. Also, I think the 1076s didn't have the magazine safety (or maybe the guns made for FBI didn't have it). Both are nice guns, but I'd go with the 1006 first.

The 1006 is a 5 inch barrel, while the 1076 is a 4 incher I believe. The 1006 is a bit more rugged than the 1076.

Fed168 could give you the skinny. He has a 1076 and covets a 1006...:D

caz223...

This is an easily disabled feature. Search here or the old TFL site for info.

The 1076 has a "Commander"-style 4.25" slide/barrel, with a frame-mounted decocker (like a Sig 220) ...

... whereas the 1006 has a full 5" slide/barrel, with the traditional S&W slide-mounted decocker ...

HTH. :)

:cool:

That is correct; I have a FBI trade-in 1076. It does not have the magazine disconnect and is engraved on the right side of the slide saying so.

1006 = 5" TDA slide mounted safety/decocker
1066 = 4.25" TDA slide mounted safety/decocker
1026 = 5" TDA frame mounted decocker
1076 = 4.25" TDA frame mounted decocker
1086 = 4.25" DAO/slick slide

All except the FBI 1076s have mag disconnects.

Not so, they are all built on the same steel (stainless) frames and built like brick outhouses.

Fed168 KY Imports catilogue says they have 1006's but they aren't on their web site. Might be like my looking for a Markarov. CDNN and KY were both out.

1006=BIG FUN! A very confidence inspiring,well (over?) engineered gun. I had good luck with KY Imports with a S&W 4053 I ordered from them recently. It was even a little better than they described it. Marcus

Don't forget the 1046! :D

PHOOEY!!!!!!

With such a low number it's going to be hard to find one for sale and when I do, it will likely cost way out of line.

Actually, I just looked in Supica and Nahas (Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson). Extremely limited production run of 148 pistols. Looks like I'll just find me a plain old fashed 1006.
