I have gotten my hands on roughly 100lbs of lead from wheel weights and was wondering if anyone has a rough idea of how many 250g 45lc bullets i could expect to get from casting that amount?. I'm just curious and wont even be starting to do this for a couple months but am curious. Thanks alot for any opinions.

If your measurement is exactly right, and you use every ounce (or grain, actually) of that lead, 2,800 bullets.

(7,000 grains to the lb. x 100 lbs, divided by 250 gr. per bullet)

I don't cast, but there are 7000 grains to a pound. Might give you a ball park figure of the number of bullets

I do not cast but there is surely waste or skim when you flux. I would thing at least 10% or more.

If I was lucky enough to get 100 lbs of wheel weights I would take up casting! There are a Haz Mat item here in Florida, so you can't just get them from the local tire places anymore. WalMart parking lot has to many surveillance cameras.:D:uhoh:

Thanks guys,i'm a math idiot. I do A/C for a living and i have some customers that have decided to trade me lead for A/C checkups, works out good for both of us,they own auto shops so its no biggie for them.

Nah. You'll lose a little bit if they haven't been smelted (the steel clips). But not even close to 10%.

You'll be surprised what you can do with a little small-talk and a $20 bill. All the big chain places have a recycling contract, but the small shops usually pay off. I stopped at 5 places last weekend on a fishing trip and scored at 3. ~240lbs of lead wheelweights. $30 spent.

You will have some scrap, no doubt. A 5 gallon bucket usually goes about 160 pounds and I get about 100-110 pounds of useable lead out of them.
You will have steel clips on all of them, and you'll get some zinc and steel weights too. I would guess you'll have 70 pounds of lead or so when you're done.
