At some point I will build up a so called, High End
1911, for licensed CCW with the features I want, after years of trying everything.

I like 10mm, but want to see what the general opinions are out there.
I will be hand-loading again by then too.

Isn't 10mm a pretty high pressure round compared to the .45ACP which is noted for being low pressure? I'd think you'd want to be awfully careful with slide design if you tried to chamber a 1911 for 10mm less it blow up in your face.

I know the guy who used a ten mill 1911 first in a deadly force thing. It took him five or more shots to get the job done. He had done better with the 45 and went back to it. Not that the ten mil shouldn't have worked better. It just didnt on this occasion.

1911

Perhaps I was not clear,
It is a new build, Caspian Arms, new Slide and new frame,
Both ordered for 10 mm from the factory.
Warranted for life as a 10mm,

Interesting to note, 5 shots from a 10mm? :what:
I doubt a .45 acp would have done much better then.

so do I.

Go for it!

1911s are so modular, you can get it done just the way you want, and I'm a real big fan of the Centimeter.

I love hearing about custom 10mm jobs, so, how are you planning on speccing out the gun?

10mm - 1911

Here ya go.. DW series 70 1911 - 10mm.

Smithed by Teddy Jacobson - "Street reliability package" - Ammo = Double Tap.

It's reliable - accurate - funtional/ Close as i have gotten to a "perfect combat handgun".

12-34hom.

Lots of fun. You can now get 10's in 1911's from so many compared to when I bought mine. You can go DW, Kimber, Wilson, Baer and even older Colts.

Mine are DW's and Baer's. No regrets!

10mm is a great round. Have one in Colt Delta Elite and would not sell it. Also have the 10mm in a S&W 1076, Glock 20 & 29 and in a S&W 610 revolver. Yes, also like my 45ACPs, 357Sig, 40S&W and 9mm in semi autos.

Love to build one up someday

Back in my days as a clerk at a pawnshop, we must have taken in probably 5 or 6 Colt Delta Elites in 10mm. They sold rather quickly, although both the people that bought them and the guys that brought them in all bitched about recoil, for what that is worth to you.

Recoil ?

Dunno, I have fired 10mm out of Diverse handguns,
I have no idea that Recoil is a factor for Me, it never bothered Me.

Then again, I have a Ruger Redhawk 7 1/2 inch barrel .44 Magnum, and think its a fun lil pop gun.

I want a Stainless build up, I do not want bells and whistles, standard stuff that I learned to use when I was issued My first 1911 20 years ago.
I do want a unique serial number on My 1911, however.
What I want is based on My experience on the street in LE.
I want a smooth drawing slick handgun, maybe a long slide drawn from a shoulder holster.

Post # 10 is close to what I'm looking for... I just want the full length dust
cover and in a 6".

If you can build exactly what you want, go for it.

That is the great thing about having worked in a Gun store and worked with folks that took time to teach Me.
I have always been good with tools and fireams repairs.

The RZ10 is calling me

there's another thread with some gorgeous pics (can't find it).

How much are they going for? The only gun store around me that carries them is outrageously overpriced.

I love my colt delta elite. I heard that some of the very early models with the same frames had difficulty with hairline cracks, but this was remedied with milling a little more metal off the area right above the slide release.
Recoil "isn't that bad". In less subjective terms, it feels to me like a happy medium between the push of the standard pressure loads, and the kick of regular .45 +p. I find full power 10mm loads more managable than +P 230gr rangers.

the glock 10 is a Ted Nugent favorite. He even killed a warhog with a corbon load.

Recoil in a ten is about ergonomics. The first time that I put a large quantity of full power 10mm through my Delta, it started bothering me after about the first 100 rounds. After that, it got to feeling like someone was punching me in the hand every time I shot it.

When I looked at my hand afterwards, I realized that the aftermarket beavertail and mainspring housing (Smith+Alexander and Wilson) had edges that were tearing me up. After some attention from my gunsmith, I can shoot it all day long comfortably.

It's not about the round nearly as much as it is about the gun.

I agree. I've put 200 rounds of Double Tap through my Glock 20 in an afternoon. Say what you want about Glocks, but they do an awesome job of dissipating recoil and controlling muzzle flip. The crease in my trigger finger was a little sore, but I suffered no ill effects past that. I could shoot the Glock 20 all day long and not be any the worse for wear.

Reports of recoil through the 10mm is largely exaggerated, IMO largely by the Holier Than Though 9mm crowd that gets more caught up in split times than what happens when the bullet gets there. That is another argument entirely, but I've seen a 16 year old girl do just fine with the Glock and Double Taps. Feels to me like maybe a +P .45 through a 1911--certainly the recoil is there, but it is nothing ferocious or uncontrollable with practice.

My bro's Springfield has such a narrow grip safety that even it can get a little painful in an extended shooting session. I think narrow grips are overrated.
