Hi guys,

I just came into a bunch of 45 ACP brass and am going to load it over the next couple of weeks. My Kimber is being worked on (upgrade mods by the custom shop - it didn't break ).

I shoot a Delta Elite in 10mm and was wondering what would be needed to shoot 45 ACP out of it. I assume a barrel, recoil spring, mag and bushing at least.

Seems like an OK idea, I know the 10mm frames are beefed up and other 1911 conversions are available from many places. I know this isn't exactly the most popular conversion, I'm just looking to shoot up some of my favorite home grown and my Kimber won't be home for another month plus.

Thanks for the info in advance...

Barrel, slide, extractor, probably (almost certainly) ejector, spring...pretty much a new top end.

Not worth the $$ to most, unless you have one that happens to fit or a burning desire.

You may very well run into feed ramp problems to boot. Better off getting a second pistol.

Their definitely will be feed ramp issues. If all you want to shoot is hardball, you may be able to get by with an ejector swap and a whole new top end. (Slide, barrel, and all the small parts involved.)

I bought a Caspian frame which was a 9mm. I built it as a .45 first, because I had a spare .45 slide and barrel. It was 100% reliable with hardball, but not with anything else.

Now, it is into its 3rd life as a 9x23 mm, having spent a short period of time as a .38 Super. I suppose I should say 4th life, since it spent a few days as a 9 x 19 mm. Anyway, the angle of the feed ramp is definitely different.

With ramped barrels, the situation changes. Since 18 round magazines are now readily available for Para-Ordnance I am considering changing mine over to 9x23. This would require a new slide and barrel and ejector. I probably won't do it. :)

All the Caspian frames have a 9mm style ramp. They are shallower than most measured from the top of the rails, therefore shorter. It's not hard to make them run, a great deal of people use them, it's actually an all purpose kind of deal, and we've got nearly 70 of them, student built, running like tops on everything including reloads. They key is good magazines and a good barrel.

This is a conversion that I have done. I have a Colt Delta Elite Stainless and I wanted to shoot 45 ACP for IPSC/USPSA competition. I used a Springfield Armory 45 ACP slide and BarSto semi-drop in barrel as the basis for building a new top end. The receiver received a 45 ACP ejector and the slide stop was relieved to prevent the larger 45 bullets from prematurely activating the stop. It worked pretty well and the 45 ejector is still 100% reliable with the 10mm top end. I would say it is easier to get a 10mm frame to run reliably in 45 ACP than it is to get a 45 ACP frame to run 10mm.
