The last time I shot my 1100 LT 20 was about a month ago. I put two shells through it at the skeet field to see if it would cycle my reloads. It did so without any issues at all.

Tonight, I was doing some reloading and made some adjustments to my press as I wanted to go to 3/4 oz from 7/8. I tried them in my wingmaster and had no problem and then I popped a shell in the magazine and chambered a round in the 1100. It locked the gun up. I could not manually cycle the bolt and had to remove the barrel to get the shell out. Thinking it might have been the shell, I tried another reload with the same result. After that I tried both a factory shell and an empty hull and both locked up the gun. The bolt works correctly with an empty chamber.

I'm really not sure what would be causing this as it worked fine the last time at the range. I would appreciate any help.

Regards,

Dale

Do you mean you could not pull the bolt back? Is your extractor damaged/hanging up? How did you get the shell out when you removed the barrel?
The only other thing that comes to mind off hand is an extremely plastic fouled chamber.

The bolt did not want to come back with a shell in the chamber. The bolt cycles normally with an empty chamber. I took a quick look at the extractor this morning before work and it does not appear to be battered or damaged at all. When I removed the barrel, the shell just slid out. With the barrel off the gun, I can chamber and remove a round pretty easily. It's a little tight when the shell is fully seated, but it doesn't take any excess pressure to chamber the round. Removing the shell, I just used my finger nail and pulled the shell out.

When I get home from work tonight, Ill give it a good cleaning to see if that helps at all. I keep it clean and normally clean it after each range trip. I did not clean it after I fired those two shells to test function about a month ago.

Thanks for the reply.

Well I had a few extra minutes before work this morning and was able to give the chamber a good scrubbing. I used a 12ga bore brush and cleaned up a lot of crap that I hadn't noticed last night. It did the trick and it now works as it should.

Thanks for the reply Virginian.

Also make sure when chambering a round, you let the bolt slam shut on it. Don't lower the bolt by hand.

I have seen a couple 1100's hang up like this before, both times it was because the bolt was lowered by hand and not allowed to slam shut on the round.
