I have a remington 1100 lt-20 magnum. Problem is with the 1100 mag's is they only cycle magnum loads(mine anyway). Is the difference in the mag and standard the barrel or reciever or both? Would a standard bbl have larger ports to allow the shorter shells to cycle? What can I do to make it cycle 2.75" shells?
I love to shoot and magnum 20 ga shells are really expensive, so I need some help.

I'm no expert, but I can try to guess.

I think the barrel and receiver are both different. You might be able to load hot 2.75" but I don't know for sure. I'd suggest reloading--you WILL save a lot of money. If you want to get it fixed, call Remington.

Best of luck.

Buy a 2 3/4" barrel, it will have larger ports, which will make your gun function with lighter loads. Yours could be reamed out, but I wouldn't.:)

The difference is in the barrel only. The receviers are the same other than those that start out as magnums may have that embossed on the side.

The difference between a magnum barrel and a standard barrel is the chamber length and the gas port holes. In the standard barrel there are two port holes allowing additional gas to the piston so that the gun will cycle with lower power loads.

The magnum gun should shoot 2&3/4 inch "magnum" loads and I have tuned the gas ports on many to allow them to fire 2&3/4 inch heavy field loads. (at customer request) This is done by opening up the single gas port on the magnum barrel by a small amount. This will however increase the gas enough to give a stouter recoil when 3 inch magnums are used.

If you would like to shoot a range of 2&3/4 inch shells (from heavy field and below) then your best option is to buy a standard barrel for your gun - they interchange without a problem.

Just buy another barrel. The barrel port or ports determine the pressure required to cycle the action. A 2 3/4" barrel is made to cycle 2 3/4" loads.
