Will it work? I know the 12 gauge parts won't fit on the older large frame 20's but the 16 and 12 are on the same frame and the cartridges are very close dimensionally. Has anyone tried a 12 gauge barrel on a 16 gauge 870?

I cannot recall, 16 gauges were not something I messed with a whole lot.
If we don't [THR] does not come up with an answer, may I suggest you look/ ask here, they seem like real nice folks, and I enjoy lurking over there.
Thanks Steve. I'll drop over there. I might have to mind my manners because I'm for the most part a 16 gauge heretic and no doubt the folks there are fans.
I can tell you that it will fit. I assembled a 16 ga. WM here at casa del 9mm with all 12 gauge parts and it went together fine. It would not pump however as the receiver is not clearanced inside for the 12 gauge bolt to fully open.
I did this by accident by the way as there was no indication (I did not look up the serial no.) that it was in fact a 16 ga. WM frame.
