125 gr. or 158 gr.?

125's for defense against 2 legged critters, 158's for 4 legged critters and practice.

I dislike the blast and muzzle flash that you typically get with 125 grain loads and I prefer heavier bullets anyway. 158gr.

Anyone know anything about the CCI Blazer .357 158 JHP with the aluminum cases? Any good? Found a box of 50 in a box in my basement, bought 4-5 years ago. Being that it is CCI/Speer, just wondered if the bullet design is the same as a Gold Dot?

shoot'em...they're a good practice round. I have even killed a coupla deer with them....they aren't my preference for either Hunting or SD, but they're definitely worth what you pay for 'em.

In limited testing i found that the
Federal classic 125gr jhp would get
1300fps from my 2" 640-1.The Winchester
158gr jhp only clocked 1175fps from
the same revolver.

In a Sp-101 i would try the Winchester
145gr silvertip first as the Sp-101's
i've owned would shoot quite low with
any thing under 140 grains.

Another vote for the 158. In my 2 1/4" SP101 recoil with the 158 is more manageable than that 125. The 158 I think is the most useful all around .357 load. The 125 is a specialist for defense against 2-legged predators. The 170 - 200 are specialists for black bear defense or large game hunting. The 158 does it all well.

A 125gr .357 Magnum round is a proven man stopper but I just like 158gr bullets better. There are many good reasons to use both but you will have to decide for yourself. Don't let what people on a forum tell you decide which bullet you use for SD. Shoot them both and then decide which would be better for you in your revolvers.
