Ka-PIE-OUWWWW!

If you think my question is silly, then what do you think of several of the replies? My question was basically to pick a mild recoil .38 special load for a 357 magnum revolver with a 2 3/4" barrel. I worded my question as I did, to avoid replies such as .357 magnum 125 gr. JHP and .38 special +P 158gr. lead hollow point. About 7 members so far suggested .357 magnum loads. Some suggested .38 special loads which give more than mild reload. I don't mean to sound like the forum police or anything, but on just about every thread that is posted, there are always replies which do not answer the question.

i personnally dont know how to calculate the recoil impulses or whatever that formula was you posted.....

if you simply said a mild recoiling .38spl load designed for self defense i would have told you the Federal 125gr. NyClads, which are discontinued but still found on line....next would be the Winchester 110gr. STHP

since everybodys perception of "recoil" is different, i picked the two least "recoiling" hollow point rounds meant for self defense.

good luck.

Why didn't you just come out and say you wanted .38 special loads? You didn't mention .38 special once in your original post. I thought you were looking for 357 mag loads too.

I had no idea what you were getting at with the 4" barrel velocities, but then again, I'm terrible at math.

Anyway, I stick with what I said in my first post. Try some different types of ammo and see what works best with that particular shooter and gun. What works for me or anyone here might not work well for that shooter or might not group well or shoot to POA in that gun.

Thanks, Jerry. You're so right that some people handle recoil better than others. To me, the 125 gr. Nyclad and the 110 Silvertip are mild.

tbeb,
I think I answered your question in Post #22 just as asked but you seem to have ignored my post.

I understand how you feel about getting so many answers to a question you didn't ask but I've learned not to let it upset me because it's going to happen almost every time and not on this forums only. Try to lighten up a bit... ;)

Well, Tbeb, you're right. Not everyone understood the question. Or not everyone reads the question. Or not everyone chooses to answer the question as asked. Several people, including myself, answered as best they could given your parameters. Still, since you gave the formula to use, you could easily figure out which of those met your criteria based on that formula. In that power range, I doubt that any one load is head and shoulders over the others. Just pick one or two or three and try 'em out. Still if you want one final answer it is Number 5, Remington Golden Saber 38 Special 125 grain +P JHP, Part Number 23720, 975 fps from a 4 inch vented barrel for 121,875.

My solution is that my Ruger 2.75" is a 9mm. I use either 95 gr JSP, or 124 GR JHP+P. Either will provide enough speed/power for HD purposes. For our inquirer, my solution would be the Speer GD 135+P, or my favorite 38 load the +P 158 GR SWHP.
