I appreciate the input. I understand the science of actual recoil. What I am looking for is the least "perceived" recoil. I don't care how violent it is inside the chamber, i just want what will punch me in the shoulder the lightest.
So far the softest shooting 12ga I have experienced is a Remington 1100 Classic Trap with a 30 inch barrel. The gun is not the lightest 12ga and is gas operated. Heft and gas operation makes for soft percieved recoil.
I have a 1100 magnum(3" shells) with a hastings CSD slug barrel and a wenig new american stock made with laminate. I have a matching laminate forearm but am using a plastic (synthetic) one. It seems to balance it out better on the shoulder. kinda heavy but not so much as to wear me out hunting.
the stock is wider in both directions then most stocks, more mass i rekon.
Can't remember the name of the but pad..I should be able to it was a pain grinding it down to fit the stock (tip freeze em first easier to sand) made by the ones that make compond bow stuff.
any how hardly notice the kick. of course I ain't shootin trap or clay all day either.
I have been told a short barrel reduces kick also.
I've got a 500 and a Savage 720 (A5 clone). Firing the same slugs, the Savage kicks twice as much as the 500. I don't understand it and it should be the opposite, but I'd rather fire 3" slugs from the 500 than fire 2 3/4" slugs from the Savage.
