If it works don't knock it. Some think you need to spend big bucks on a firearm to meet a need. I'm not one of them.

Nice score! These old 'store-brand' guns are all made by reputable manufacturers, and often represent a good value because people don't recognized the brand anymore. Last year I paid $100 for a J.C.Higgins (Sears brand) in excellent condition, and it works a treat. These were made by High Standard and it 's maybe the slickest pump-action I've handled.
 
I built an HD shotgun for my mother out of a Western field 550a, Changed out some springs and it ran like a brand new gun.

All in all, good purchase, and may it serve you well!

A friend of mine use to pick up old High Standard and similar type shotguns for around $100 or so and modify them for home defense use. Most we're cosmetically challenged in one way or another but they all worked just fine.
