In a local story about gang shootings, the Albany Times-Union claims that:

(about halfway down page 2)

"In a document that was part of discovery materials in the case, a younger member of the Jungle Junkies was said to have an arsenal that included an AK-47 assault rifle with a 150-round banana clip, two shotguns and two handguns."

A 150-round banana clip? Does such a thing even exist, or are they more likely referring to a drum of some kind, and just got the terminology wrong?

They were probably referring to this:
which is a 100 round joke magazine that used to be sold by Centerfire Systems (among others).

Then again, you know the media is prone to exaggeration.

Arsenal? HA! That's nothing...

Thanks for the input, all. I guess the reporter just got it wrong, or else the police said "banana clip" when what they meant was "drum," or whatever. I kind of wonder what made a gangbanger get such a thing (to say nothing of where he got the AK).

As for whether five guns is an arsenal ... I guess it is when the article it's found in is about people worried about "community guns" (where several people in a gang share a single gun). Small potatoes by the standards of many THR posters, but a single gun is plenty deadly for these degenerates. A little girl got shot and died in Albany recently, hence the coverage of the issue. (Not trying to put you down at all, Yamato - just clarifying where the article is coming from.)

Why do they always say the name of a gun then assualt rifle, or high-capacity? It is just annoying to read over and over and over.

There is no such thing as a 150 round AK-47 drum either.

Really, not anywhere?

[does some research]

Hmmm ... you're right, the only 150 round drums I can find are for airsoft "AKs." Wow, you don't suppose that the cops found an airsoft AK and were trying to pass it off to reporters as a real gun, do you?

Hey, Coronach, is there like some top-secret website where you can find all that commie propaganda for the... ahem, modifying..?

Reporters might think Airsoft was just another gun company, like Smith & Wesson.

I'm thinking that airsoft guns are popular for the poorer criminal set. Cheap to get one that looks scary, no black market dealers to go through.

I dunno where that came from originally. WEG had posted it on another thread, so I snagged it and turned it back on him. It's been floating around for a while, though, so I'm not sure who posted it first.
