$1501.00 S&W M&P 1905 4th change

Hello friends and neighbors // On GunBroker with less than three hours to go and 29 bids is a $1300.00 S&W .38 M&P.

This one was manufactured in 1940 and has a 2" barrel. No box and some holster wear.

Check your M&Ps

This knowledge upgraded the storage of the 1929, 2" I picked up for $330.00 last year. I just shot it along with a 1955 2" last month, still strong and accurate. More holster wear than turn line on mine.

That one in the photo appears to have been reblued.

The hammer & trigger should be color case-hardened and it doesn't look like they still are.

Someone might well find that gun a surprise, but not a nice one!

That gun has been heavily polished and reblued and not even a very good job. It is worth maybe $200 as a shooter; it has no collector value.

Yes, the trade mark looks filled in but most of the wear seems even otherwise.

I wonder about the blue trigger, the sides of the hammer at the very rear still have a liitle blue left too. the top of the hammer is blue as well.

The one on GB has the case hardening on both trigger and hammer and no blue on either. Both hammers read "Reg. U.S. Pat. Off "along the back.

so less than the $330 I paid lol ,glad I don't have to worry about shooting it.
I hope someone has an untouched 2" that has gone unnoticed.

The one on Gunbroker appears correct, and judging from no case head imprint on the recoil shield, nearly unfired.

I am confused. The gun I was referring to as buffed and reblued is the one shown in the thumbnail in post #1 by Content. The one on Gunbroker cited in post #7 by rcmodel looks fine except for very minor muzzle wear. I am not sure it is worth $1315, but it is very nice.

Yes, mine is the "more respected" shooter just hope someone keeps from ruining theirs like mines previous owner. Knowing about the 2" might keep someone from making a mistake.

I still figured it was worth more than $200, that is low for a S&W locally.

Exactly, I'll be looking for 2" M&Ps for a good price just like looking for a well priced Python.

GunBroker auction finished at $1500.00 for the 2" M&P and I was with JimK thinking that $1300.00 was high. I bought a beautiful 6" Python with box last month for $800.00...go figure.

A little over a year ago I watched a .38 Military & Police (1905 Hand Ejector, 4th Chg.) with a 6-inch barrel auctioned off for $1,300. It however, was apparently unfired.

Clearly someone wanted it much more then I did...

Do you folks think both auctions ran away a little or is the value truly worth what each individual is willing to pay on any given day.?

I've found a few, long looked for guns ,when far from home and paid a little more than expected. Especially if it is a handgun with shipping and FFL added.

Most of mine are bottom shelf shooters, because I want to shoot them and it is what I can afford to "collect". I don't think I am alone.
Tha M&P was just another shooter snubbie to compare to my others. The fact that it still works great 83 years after it was made is a bonus. The fact that a 2" is an unusual find is a better bonus but it remains a bottom shelf shooter.
