I saw that these are actually something called 155gr SMK Palma?. They were on sale at Cabelas and I needed some bullets for my new Savage .308 I just bought.

Well my question is, will these shoot ok out of my new Savage? My rifle is a 1:10 twist with 22" barrel.

Yeah. That's mainly why I got the rifle. Actually, I just wanted something else to reload for. Lol. I have a 7mm Rem Mag that I hunt with.

The Sierra 155gr Palma bullets were specifically designed for use in a .308 Win rifle in Palma matches. That bullet will probably out shoot most shooters. You should be happy with the results. Don't forget the range report... :)

Any .30 caliber bullet weight you can find for sale will shoot all right in a 1-10 .308 rifle regardless of barrel length.

The original twist for the .7.62 NATO was 1-12 in the M-14 rifle.

1-10 as always used in 30-40 & 30-06 military rifles is even better for heavier bullets in .308.

Will do. I can't wait to get everything here to load for it. Already have the powder and primers and brass. Just waiting on the bullets and dies now. Can't wait to try out a couple different powders I have on hand.

as we all know there are MANY good powders for loading the 308. There is always the standby IMR4895 and H4895 and there is my favorite 308 powder, IMR4064. Good luck on finding your pet load.

Thanks. Those two are the two I was actually going to try. I was going to use IMR4895 first, then H4895. I like what I see about case fill with the IMR4895.

My M1 loves to eat these. May make the switch to these from 168's for 200yd. although they're made for Palma. Good luck with your development!

I have usually found a good load with the 155 Palma type bullets, whether Lapua or Sierra using RL15. I hope you enjoy yours too. I have found that the 155 Scenar shoots about the same as the 175 grain match king, only holds its velocity a little further.

These bullets were designed for the shooter who competes in Palma style competitions. In this style of shooting you compete with either a .223 or .308 caliber rifle. In some of the matches (International Palma matches for instance) you are limited to a bullet weight of no more than 156 grains for .308. Since the matches go out to 1000 yards, a standard 155 grain bullet isnt a great choice for this. The Palma bullets have a longer, pointier secant shaped ogive to give higher ballistic coefficients and better wind bucking capabilities. Nevertheless they will usually not compete with heavier 175 grain bullets at 1000 yards if the wind picks up. They are designed for the long range competitive shooter who is restricted by bullet weight and trying to get the most out of a bullet that really isn't ideal for long range shooting. Nevertheless they should give good results out to a few hundred yards and even longer if you want to challenge you wind reading abilities.
