I was wondering, are .17HMRs quite? The reason i ask this is because there are some pesky rodents that keep chewing up my trampoline, and i dont want to disturb my neighbors getting rid of said rodents. So are they quite enough for backyard use?

uh, no not really. what you might want to consider is a .22 with shorts or aguilla collibri's (there primer fired only, no powder) and if the critter ain't to big an adult air gun is a real option. if your in city limits an air rifle or bow is about your only option without causing a big stink with the local po po :p if your neighbors are close better watch those back stops.

Mine is pretty damn loud actually. It's not quite like a centerfire rifle but it's definitely louder than a .22. Go with the air rifle. You can get them with enough oomph and accuracy for most rodents at reasonable ranges.

Mine is also louder than any 22 I've heard, I too agree with the air rifle especially one that does lik 1000fps with .17 pellets, that'l do the trick.

I've taken large woodchucks with a pump air rifle with flat head pellets. My family thought I couldn't kill anything with it, so they allowed me to shoot pest, birds, squirrels, anything small and in one afternoon I went out and killed two woodchucks, two blackbirds, one robbin, and one squirrel  . They didnt let me have my air rifle back :cuss: . Go with the air gun to keep the cops off your back, plus it keeps those annoying cats away :D .

It is alot louder than my .22. I needed hearing protection with it. The ammo isnt as cheap as .22 either. I just sold mine and bought a mosin nagant and about 800 rounds of ammo.7.62x54r should do the trick for some ground hogs

What you want is a .22 with CCI "CB" shorts from Wal-Mart. Thank me later.

no, they are louder, as they create more pressure and speed of gas expansion, coming out of a smaller diameter hole. the man suggesting a 22 with either cb shorts, or Aguila colibris' or super colibris' , will be the ticket.
