On Remington's website, they are recalling their .17 HMR chambered semi-auto, and their brand of .17 HMR ammo. However, from what I understand, all the .17 HMR ammo is made by the same people in the same plant. They just use different colored V-Max tips and different name stamps. My question, why is only Remington recalling it's .17 HMR ammo? Also, how does this affect bolt action rifles, level action rifles, revolvers.......or does it?

I've had experience with deformation and cracking of the casings when firing .17 HMR from a Taurus .17 HMR revolver. At the time, I thought it was the revolver, but now I'm not so sure.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I've been to the manufacturer's website of my rifle, and have found nothing about any kind of .17 HMR recall. However, I'm just wanting to double check.

I think it's more a matter of getting the rifles recalled, and less a problem with the ammo. With them paying for the ammo, there should be less chance of someone shooting the rifle to shoot up the ammo. The rifle is the problem, IMO.

Link to recall.

From WIKI site.

A growing number of companies offer .17 HMR ammunition. CCI Ammunition loads all of the .17 HMR ammunition for the CCI, Federal Cartridge, Hornady, and Remington brands. However, the ammunition is loaded with different bullets to different specifications.
