Looks like all those firing out of battery threads I've read on the Remington 597 17 HMR at RFC over the years in finally got someone's attention. Surprised it took so long.

it is not a prob, so long as you first break in your semi auto manually, then , on the remmy's , do the PROPER rail job, as they don't do it right at the factory, then make sure you have the correct mags for your remmy(latest generation, and steel), and above all; keep the bolt face/chamber face/ chamber area clean, anytime you think about it. You also hear this happening with the mach 2's, but not as much, and you proly never hear it happening with the Volquartzen in semi auto hmr. That is becuase they have a self tapping gas leak hole, which prevents this from happening in the first place.
17 ammo is made by lots of peeps, aguila makes it, eley makes it, hmr is made by cci,/horni also used to be made by Fiocchi and Sellier/ Bellot; though not sure if still made by those last two. You know, you would expect more from CCI, since their parent company makes just about every military/rocket/jetfuel/solid/liquid/ space shuttle fuel mix there is to make out there, and you know it has to be precise, everything from fuel in sidewinder missiles, to exocets, to ... well.. the shuttle boosters. They just are lazy
with us shooters , i guess.

Hmm, well, I'm glad I have a .22 mag model. :D I like the gun and 200 bucks is stupid. MSRP is $455 from what I can find. If they sold a faulty product, they should re-reimburse you the total MSRP of the product, not short you 255 bucks. Me, if I had the 17 and didn't have any trouble with it already, I'd just keep it and shoot it. But, that's just me.

I just saw the recall notice yesterday and am still fuming. I bought mine new exactly two years ago for $399.98 and it was advertised with a $50 factory rebate. I'm still waiting on that check. Now it's worth 1/2 the original price to Remington as scrap? And I'm supposed to wait at least six weeks for a voucher and shipping reimbursement? It's enough to drive Mahatma Gandhi to fight, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale to cuss and Bill Clinton to marital fidelity. Cheesh!
