Just bought a .17 rimfire a few weeks ago and after shooting a few rounds decided to clean the rifle. To my surprise I found out that my "universal" gun cleaning kit will not work with a 17 cal. barrel. Are there any individual small bore cleaning rods around or do I buy another complete kit?

yeshttp://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=.14+rifle+cleaning+kit&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#sclient=psy&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&source=hp&q=.17+rifle+cleaning+kit&aq=f&aqi=g-c1g1&aql=&oq=&pbx=1&fp=492b7df06d5f3b2f&biw=1402&bih=902

I bought a solid steel rod and use sparingly

.17 WMR??? DId you mean HMR?

Why not get a bore snake? It makes cleaning so much more effortless that trying to cram a rod that barely fits down a .17 size barrel. Then you have patches you have to cut up quite small just to get them to fit. I use a bore snake now and will never look back.

had the same thing happen to me, had to go looking for a ".17 specific" cleaning-kit,,now i have so many cleaning brushes and patch-runners i have to re-organize my cleaning tray

I tried a three piece rod and it broke very quickly. After two tries, I made a rod one piece out of a piece of brass round stock with a machined end that would support a patch. I use a nylon brush for the chamber and most folks only clean the chamber to retain accuracey. A file handle works very well on the other end. Be Safe

I use a Gamo air rifle .177 cleaning kit for my .17 hmr. Works great.

yup, a .177 air rifle cleaning kit contains everything a firearm cleaning set does and should work just fine.
