New to hit our Aussie shore is the Savage Model 25 in .17 HORNET cal. Has anyone tried this rifle and if so what are your thoughts. Are there other makers of this cal. Thanks.
Have three 22 Hornets and had to try the .17 version as well. Same reaction as had to the .17 hmr. After using outside on a windy day traded it off. If shooting in zero wind would be fine, if a puff of crosswind happens by, they get a bit loopy. While the 22's will still take.a bucking by the wind, not near as noticeable. My 22 Hornets so well proven and known, I am sticking with them.
I have the Ruger 77/17 Hornet and it is great. I have been using it quite a bit over here in our deserts surrounding California. It has no recoil, low noise signature, and is super accurate out of my Ruger. I really love it so far. I was using a .22Mag or the .17HMR and those are great, but this gives me much better performance, I can reload the cases, and similar noise levels.
There is some good clips from England on youtube. They are shooting with suppressors and also shoot into balistic medium. They were using the Savage 25's. I can't wait to get back to TX to take out some bigger varmints with it.
Here is a good review on YouTube from a Tennessee guy: http://youtu.be/RsXIN_amcUQ titled Savage Model 25 Walking Varminter in 17 Hornet - Gunblast.com.
He also reviews the Ruger 77/17: http://youtu.be/JZQkCV-C_2g titled Ruger Model 77/17 VHZ 17 Hornet Bolt-Action Rifle - Gunblast.com
