Hi,

I chopped this barrel down to 18.5" and I'm trying to figure out how, or if, I can mount a tac light on it.

Any ideas?

Hi,

What do you mean about the weight affecting the dynamics? I figure if you point/aim right, a buckshot load will pretty much go where you want it.

We occasionally get varmints out back, lots of possum, some racoon, the occasional fox and I have a friend that identified what he says was the scat of a bobcat out there.

Every once in a while the county issues a wldlife rabies alert. Hell, all possums look like they have rabies to me, all that hissing and drooling. I hate 'em. If you've ever seen a possum up close, they ain't sweet little cuddly creatures. They can get pretty big and they can also get a little nasty if they feel threatened.

Anyway, if I'm pointing at a growling creature in the dark, I'd hate it to be some neighbor's dog.

Mossberg shotguns purchased with two barrels come with a wing nut clamp. It holds the extra barrel to the one mounted on the frame.

Best thing since sliced bread to mount a light to a shotgun barrel :)

perry,

Thanks for the tip. I called Mossberg, they knew what I was talking about but they don't sell them as a "art."

Sounded perfect.

Mick I had bought a Mossberg combo for my step daughter. Used it fox hunting this year, works good. Would work on Just about any gun, light combo.

Its on the self defense set up in the bedroom now. Maybe ask you dealer, he may be able to snag a couple from people he sells the guns to.

FYI possums can't have rabies. I used to think this too, and possums were on my dangerous critters list. I did some more reading, and it turns out that they don't even act as carriers.

spaz, i've read the same stuff.

Either way, rabies carriers or not, I just plain don't like 'em whether it's rational or not.

Have you ever gotten close to one and seen that hissing, spitting, drooling and tooth display thing they do?

Sure, maybe this is just a "possum bluff." Who cares? I tend to call their bluff with a little lead if they don't beat a hasty retreat.

Maybe they don't carry or transmit rabies. But they eat offal and I bet a bite or scratches from one could result in a nasty infection for humans or pets if not properly treated.

mick,

I just put one of the magazine tube rails like the one I linked above on a 12 ga. Pardner Pump. The mount's ring needs at least 1.5" of space on the magazine tube, and the rail extends for another 1/4" past the back of the ring, which is a consideration where the front of the forearm is concerned.

Of course, the Pardner has about 3" of unobstructed magazine tube exposed between the front of the forearm and the barrel ring, which allows a good bit more leeway. I'm planning on getting a TLR-1 LED for this one (http://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-TLR-1-LED-Rail-Mounted/dp/B005G4GBTY), which means by the time I put a Sidesaddle on it too (http://www.amazon.com/Tacstar-4-Sho...=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1326062291&sr=1-5) I'll have about as much $$$ sunk in accessories as I do in the gun (bought used in as new condition for $150) itself. But the accessories will also fit any 12 gauge 870 I have, and meanwhile it's an experiment in progress...
