Are you loading .38 Special, .357 Mag, or something else entirely?

I believe the Hodgdon website has loads for the XTP in most calibers.

Top load in Hornady #6 is 12.6 MAX of 2400 @ 1,150 FPS.

11.8 grains MAX Viht N-110 and 13.7 grains MAX WW-296 are next best at 1,100 FPS.

Seating = 1.590" OAL.

My personal load is 12.3 grains of 2400 with WSP primer. I don't have a chrono so I don't have the velocity but I like the load. It is stout but not overly so.

No!
Don't even think about using WW231 with 180 grain jacketed bullets!

WW231 is much too fast for heavy bullet .357 loads.

It is a light - medium load target powder.

CCI 500 primers are fine for 2400 powder.

thanks for all the help this is the first time I have ever loaded any thing bigger then 158 gr LRN and the first i have loeded JHP.
so I guess i am going to get some more powder:D. what powder should i get thet will work the best for 180 gr bullets and how much should I get.

Again, as in post #4 & #9, 2400 powder!

and how much should I get.
A pound of 2400 will load 560 rounds with 12.5 grains per load. So if you have one box of 100 bullets, a pound should be enough, unless you spill a lot!

How many more times am I going to have to type 2400 powder? :D

The best accuracy I ever achieved with the 180XTP was recently when using VV N110 for the first time , but this was with a TC 10". Have not tried in a revolver yet.

In revolvers H110 , 296 and 2400 have all been excellent performers for me in the 357.

It will depend on your gun. If 12.6 is max back off a grain or so and work your way up. I can't remember where I started but the info I had said 12.4 was max so I stopped at 12.3.

296 will outrun 2400 just a tad with that 180, and you may find that vit N110 is just as fast and a lot cleaner(and A LOT more expensive). BUT:

If you are going to load 357 mag a lot, there is no more versitile powder than 2400 in that caliber. Regardless of jacketed or cast, light or heavy. It preforms acceptably to excellent all the way across the board.

See rcmodel? I typed 2400 again for you.;)
