180gr rnfp in .44 mag

hi, first post here. i'm a long time shooter and reloader but need a little info. the nice lady at missouri bullets turned me on to the forum. i would like to use 180gr rnfp with unique powder in .44 mag brass. i need a good starting point. i would like to keep fps at around 800-850. can use use a light load of unique safely? i know the cowboy bullets are a little softer alloy. can they be used at 1000fps without massive leading? i use unique with 240gr swc with good results and have a large supply. i really didn't want to add another powder to inventory. thanks Wk1

180 grain .44 Mag cast bullet data might be a little scarce.
That's an awful light bullet.

The Lyman #49 manual has load info in it for a lot of cast bullets in every caliber.
Getsum.

They show a 205 in .44 Spl brass.
Unique:
7.0 = 736 FPS at 10,500 CUP.
8.2 = 869 FPS at 14,000 CUP.

.44 Mag 210:
Unique:
10.0 = 930 at 21,000 CUP.
13.2 = 1,221 at 36,000 CUP.

Something in there somewhere should get you started until you buy yourself a manual.

Hodgdon's site has data for the 185 grain RNFP under Cowboy Data, but not with Unique. I cast and shoot that bullet in my Model 629 and it works well, but I'm using SR4756 for my loads. It's a great bullet for loading less than full power loads in this caliber.
