I have a 1851 colt navy made in Italy for Lyman in 36 cal. can anybody tell me some things about this revolver. I have shot black powder revolvers for years and muzzleloading rifles is all I use to hunt. Have just never come across this type revolver before. Are they strong built guns? any help would be great thanks.

Lyman brand labeled Italian Cap & Ball Revolvers made by Uberti and Armi San Paolo but did not make Cap & Ball Revolvers themselves. I'm not sure if they branded any other manufacturers C &B Revolvers. Uberti has been pretty consistently good quality through the years. Some folks talk down the ASP's but I tend to prefer their dimensions.

Not sure when Lyman stopped offering them but I'd guess a Lyman marked revolver to be from the '70's so what shape it's in today could be all over the map depending on the road it's traveled.

perfect shape has not been fired in the last 20 years was given to me as a gift just would like to find who made it so I could maybe get extra nipples

Your best bet is to take out a nipple and measure it... Uberti changed threads years ago when they made parts for Colt's reissues, to #12 from the metric. Yous may be old enough to use the metric nipples, which would be the ones for the Pietta, rather than Uberti.
