How is the front sight attached on a Pietta 1851 Navy replica? It shoots quite consistently, but really high. A taller front sight shoult fix the problem and would be simple to fabricate. Of course removing the front one without damage to anything else is the goal. Is it threaded, pressed, attached some other way?

Don't know if your particular revolver's front sight is screwed in, but most people I know who have modified their Navies cut a dovetail in the barrel and use a new front sight that is typically made from brass.

Most repo revolvers shoot high, the originals did too as they were sighted in at the factory for either a fifty or one yard zero. For close-up work people aimed for the belt.

I heard that Colt designed them to shoot high based on the fact that most people tend to aim for the biggest target in a life or death situation, namely the midsection. Don't know if it's true or not, but I guess it wouldn't surprise me.

Don't know about the Pietta, but my ASM was pressed in. Discovered this when it flew off one day while shooting it. Never did find it. Dealer (Rebel Arms in Pasedena, TX) had a small box of sights of different sizes and let me look through it to find one that would fit.
