1860 Choices

Help me choose. I've never seen any of them. Darned online only purchases...

1860 Colt.

Pietta: $140 Std blue black or whatever finish. Color-Case Hardened. Brass trim.
Uberti: $225 As above.
Uberti: $255 As above, but "charcoal blue" finish. It's a faintly blued finish.

Since I haven't seen any of them, I don't know if the charcoal blue finish makes them look far more cool. Anyone seen them?

The Uberti's are higher quality guns. They make guns for a number of companies like Cimarron, Dixie, Navy Arms, and the better EMF models as well as selling them under their own name.

The difference in the standard and charcoal finish is, the standard is more of a glossy black color and is more durable, the charcoal is a beautiful very glossy deep BLUE color, BUT isn't very durable at all.

Appearance wise, the charcoal looks best, and most like the original guns looked new from the factory. However, the finish is very delicate, and wears very quickly.

Thanks so much for a thorough and intelligent reply.

I'll get the charcoal as it is more to "treasure" than shoot.
I'm also getting a `36 just because it's the strangest and very historical.

I'll get a `58 in stainless for shooting. Should hold up the best.

I have a Pietta 1860 Army with a fluted cylinder made for Cabela's. It's a good shooter, well blued (deep, almost black) but the brass is kind of rough-looking. The case hardening is colorful and the action is tight.

It's not match aesthetics wise to a signature series Colt, but its well worth the $120 I spent on it.
